I try to stick to one or two new releases a month - the next few months will involve harsh choices - but I sometimes find the odd old gem in pre-owned sections or in sales.

it depends whether we are taking into account every game, not just new releases, if we are classing all of them i am somewhere in the region of 1-4 a month, or if its just new releases, i average out 0 a month, i only buy a new release every couple of months at the moment.

Thinking about it, if you include downloads (which I suppose you should) its proabably more than 10.

For example this month I've had...

Too Human
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09
Mercenaries 2: World In Flames
Civilization Revolution DS
Spore
Crysis Warhead
Yakuza 2
Star Wars - The Force Unleashed
Civilization IV: Colonization
Brothers in Arms - Hells Highway
Wario Land The Shake Dimension
Beautiful Katamari
Wipeout HD

Granted thats a pretty busy month.

I used to buy however many games that were good per month on release but, in recent times, it's dipped to below 1 game per month on average. I really think there's been tonnes of crap released so for in 2008. This year though:-

January:
February:
March: GT5P
April: GTA:IV
May:
June: MGS4
July: Ferrari Challenge
August:
September: WipEout HD

Not good at all!

Any more than one a week is pretty crazy. I've only bought about 3 games so far this year.

I can't believe I've bought more games in the last week than most of you will buy the entire year. Mad.

You cannot possibly play each of the games you buy each month as much as they deserve to be played.

I don't want to know. It's pretty ridiculous how many games I buy to be honest.

What's mad is that you buy so many games. I wonder how many of those games you buy haven't been played or haven't been completed.

Brand new, at day release: Er.. once or nothing a month.
Brand new, but not on day release: 3-4 a month.
Pre-owned: 5+.

:fp:

But over the time it's reducing, so that's all good. :) I'm just finishing DS games before I buy another one.

In September I bought:
Viva Pinata 2 (£24.99, played for a week, haven't touched it since)
Infinite Undiscovery (£7, barely played)
Bad Company (£25, completed on hard and got all of the unlockables)
Star Wars: TFU (£8, nearly finished this one on Sith Lord)
Crysis (£2.98, a few days ago)
FEAR (£3, bargain, haven't played it much though*)
Unreal Tournament 3 (£4.99, *)
Broken Sword: The Angel of Death (£1, *)
Doom 3 (£3.99, *)
Stalker (£3, *)
Halo (£4, *)
Halo 2 (£9.71)

I've also traded/received:
Lego SW: TCS
Beautiful Katamari
Battalion Wars 2

And I've still got loads** to complete from earlier this year. LittleBigPlanet, Fable 2, Fallout 3 and Banjo will easily take up the rest of the year, I can see a few games going unfinished. 3 of those are out next month, that's 15 in two months, . I've sold quite a few more than I've bought and used credit notes whenever possible, even so, that's a bigger list than I thought it'd be. *Sells more games*

** = Burnout Paradise, Grand Theft Auto IV, Bully, Mass Effect (2nd Play + DLC), Lost Odyssey, Ratchet and Clank, Zack & Wiki, Smash Bros Brawl, Lego Star Wars: TCS, Beautiful Katamari, Bad Company (Gold run/normal), Too Human, Civilization Revolution (other civs), FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage and MGS4. That's before DS games too.

Super Smash Bro's Brawl and Lost Odyssey. I will be buying Fable 2 as well. So thats probably about 3 or 4 a year.

Yes, yes you are.

New releases were always a rare buy. I did used to buy a lot of preowned games though, maybe 1 a month. Still not a lot, hmm.

Like, if I had an X-Box 360, it'd be a trip into Manchester or Bolton into Gamestation to look for Condemned or Dead Rising cheap. Maybe £20 would be the limit, £15 quite a bargain, £10 would be can't not buy. Do 'retro' games count? Used to buy a lot of them cheap too. If I had a PS3, now would be the time to pick up Motorstorm. I doubt it's amazing, but it's probably worth £15. This is like talking to children - things go down in price, be smart. I feel like writing Hugo on a mug.

When I became a student, the combination of a holiday job, part time job and a student loan allowed me to afford more games than ever before. Unfortunately this created the start of my ever growing To Be Started pile.

This month, I bought eight games and a PS3, which is more than a little bit silly. I'm going to try and stick to two next month, which will take an enourmous amount of willpower for me, followed by two more in November. It's not that I can't afford more, even on my tiny income, but the amount of games I buy without finishing is getting ridiculous. It's hard to believe that as a child, I used to make do with usually one measly game per year, and this was when most games could be completed in a couple of hours at most. I must have played through Sonic the Hedgehog countless times before I got bored of it. FFVII was a revalation at the time, offering enough content to reward months of play in a single run, but I couldn't imagine spending so long on a single game these days.
