How often/long do you play for?

I only ask because it's struck me recently how little I play games. The time I spend with games has been on a constant slide since the PS/N64 era, with slight peaks here and there, but now it's down to about an hour a week, maybe rising to two or three hours on a quiet weekend.

Reason? Better things to do, not being in the mood a lot of the time, and there just not being the level of interest there once was. A quick session of Pro Evo with my housemates is more likely than me sitting down and actively playing something 'cause I want to.

So what about you? How often do you play, and for how long? Has that declined or risen since, say, a year ago? Any reasons?

A lot less these days, but occasionally something comes along and I sink a lot of time into it, the last case being Oblivion. I'm hoping Spore will keep me entertained for a while too. Back in the PS/N64 I seemed to be constantly glued to a tv, then when I got a PC capable of playing games I spent a long time on multiplayer first person shooters. But now I barely play anything, waiting for something to come and blow me away again.

I don't play games too much, but once i get stuck in, i'm there for a good while.

If i was playing online with some mates, then that's fun, and i could end up playing until 1am. But sometimes i can't be bothered, just play a bit of GTA or something for a couple of hours.

With the quality of TV lately horribly diminishing, i usually get about 2 hours in a day. That said, i only work 20 hours a week, so i have plenty of free time even after the gym.

But because of recent RROD, for the next 2 weeks, you might see me post on a lot more threads! :lol:

I'm like Lotus on this. I only really play for an hour or so per week nowadays. I've just lost a lot of interest recently in playing games.

Even when I do play anything, it's usually a "casual" game such as Singstar or Buzz!

Too long. The summer holidays have been going on for too long and I don't have a job. Only a month to go.

on a weekly basis I'd say I play anywhere between 5-10 hours

I've kind of stopped playing as much as I used to recently. Although earlier in the summer I played Armed Assault for 9 hours straight with 4 friends. Best time I've spent gaming ever. I can't see it being beaten, unless I do it again and even cooler things happen than before. Unlikely.

I play around 30 minutes to an hour and a half every day. My xbox is on a lot but I mainly just watch dvds.

I find I don't get as much time to play lately as I seem to be working loads and when I'm not working, I'm writing or watching films (DVD or cinema).
Plus, I'm not sure if it's game quality or my expectations being too high, but games are too lacking in substance these days and don't often hold my attention for that long - most go unfinished as I grow tired of playing the same s*** time and time again with all the identikit sequels/ripoffs/etc making up the bulk of the line-ups.

A good story is a must for me, which has been sorely lacking in most games of the past few years and especially on the new machines, which is odd considering their potential for dramatic and stylishly-shot scenes in comparison to previous consoles. The only one to really grip me this year has been MGS4, the only game this year that has seen me play for hours on end without noticing that time passing by!

The last couple of months it's been on the slide but recently I've had a retro revival. About an hour ago I just started playing Banjo-Kazooie and over the last week I've been enthralled with my DS and GBA games (Fire Pro Wrestling is still great to this day). Though when I start Uni I imagine it's going to slowdown, may resort to a bit of handheld gaming more than anything.

I'm the opposite. I can't play most games which throw plot in my face anymore. I'd even go as far to say I hate them now, I just like to stick a dvd on or read some manga for plot. I don't like thinking much when playing games either so I'm all for style over substance. It's why I enjoy Sonic and fighting games so much. Quick and you can make decent progress in my limited time.

I think that because I'm a fan of cinematic scenes, I prefer a game which has plenty of them to tell its story - MGS4 being a prime example of how this can be done right. In terms of cut-scenes (love 'em or hate 'em), I don't think anybody can deny the pure genius of the direction and the jaw-dropping quality on display (visuals, voice acting, script, animation, I could go on for a while here...) - MGS4 is a masterpiece.

A ridiculous amount. No job, no education, waiting to go to university means at least 5 hours a day.

Since Uni, my gaming time has been on a real slide. Some weeks its about only two hours per week.

If I really get into a game though, I'll spent a lot of time with it, such as Episode Two or Mass Effect, but I do find myself doing other things instead of hardcore gaming these days.

About 10 hours a week, a lot of that is online multiplayer though

Replace weekly with daily and that's me.

Depends on whether I'm in the mood for console or PC seeing as i have a laptop i can sit in bed and game quite a bit.

With recently getting Team Fortress 2 i have played that about 15 hours alone in 2 weeks, Wow gets 5 hours a week or Max now although when WotLK comes that will be my dominent game till i'm level 80

On a general week though probably around 20 hours in a week thats witha job too.

Wii will get more play time soon with games i want for Q4 Spore also if it engages me as much as the original sims did

I tend to fit in about 1 hour per day though I sometimes grab some time during lunch if I'm working from home. Mainly depends if I've got something I really want to play.

Depends on the game Im playing. If Im really into it I can stay there for hours, if its something less exciting or a bit repetitive like a sports game then Ill get bored quickly and have to take a break.
