Story & Events

Some of you accepted the Minds' call to action.

It is an hour off the northeastern ultrahighway before your car finally reaches the outskirts of the Foundry. The rest of the world is built so as to not overwhelm human perception, and this is the first time you've seen Mind architecture with your own eyes: huge buildings snake and twist, criss-crossing around and through each other even as they extend into the vast, glowing sky. Shafts of dusty blue light pulse from the ground, and they silhouette swarms of drones which flit and buzz. Your eyes follow the pylons, the cables, through a field generator, bent space, it's inside and outside at once—

You retch.

When you look again, you see explosions in the murky distance. A ringed column bathed in red light is firing on a huge, rapidly spinning drone, which is itself returning fire, and there is a sparkling wall between them as each laser shot is deflected by another. You've never seen any weapons like this before. What is going on?

Your car reaches the core of the megastructure, and you're surprised to see a human building -- a laboratory, ten stories high with plate-glass windows. "Destination reached." As you enter, you see a group of around 30 other people, speaking tensely.

You found your first nanomods.

The building's physical firewall came online.

No-one programmed the firewall.

The firewall randomly selects PaperMacheMario for deletion.

There is a mecha on the roof.

A screaming Mini E is deleted.

Drumstick gets in the mecha.

There is a boss fight.

The manifest of the Minds' factory is recovered. Rewards are available!

The mecha will protect Drumstick tomorrow. He gains the power of Serene Mind.

Corazon de Leon is shot with a lightning weapon.

Soon after, Qikz suffers the same fate.

Hexx is deleted. He was a Bot.

Tragic Magic has his legs blown off.

Jenuall is blasted out a window.

Moggy is shot down. He was a Bot.

Drumstick enters the mecha for the second time.

Drumstick and Alpha play a game of wits. Alpha gains the power of Mind Backup.

Minoru is crushed.

Clarkman gets splattered.

Banjo is deleted in his sleep.

The ground peels away, revealing the true arena of this invisible war.

Dual is lost to the abyss.

A rigged vote results in the unexpected deletion of Oblomov Boblomov. He was a Bot.

A fierce battle for the future of humanity unfolds between Drumstick and Alpha. Alpha gains the power of Necromancy.

The battle between Drumstick and Alpha was long and evenly-matched, but eventually Alpha gained the edge. His mecha was destroyed, and Beta stepped in to save him. Alpha begins constructing a ship.

Denster dies... or does he?

Denster reappears, half man, half machine.

Satriales is assassinated.

Alpha's ship nears completion. Parksey is vaporised. It was unjust. PsychicSykes faces deletion. He was a Bot.

The ship fires on the laboratory.

Beta saves the laboratory by tossing it at the ship!

False was killed in the wreckage. He was a Bot.

You decide to explore the ship. Soon after, Pancake is shot.

Eventually you reach the manual launch station.

Nun is pushed into the generator. He was a Bot.

A rigged vote causes the death of the mighty Drumstick.

The ship is launched, and the hackers win!

How to play

This is an AYA?-like game in which the Hacker and their Bots (I will call their team the hackers) attempt to overwhelm a majority of Techs. The Techs win if they delete (eliminate) all the hackers.

There are no PMs in this game (unless specifically allowed by me). Do your musings, plotting, and discussion in-thread.

The game is divided into days, each of which has two turns. The first turn runs from 10am until 2pm, and the second turn runs from 6pm until 10pm.

There are two kinds of elections:
.... 1. Each turn (before the end of the turn), you must program the physical firewall: elect someone to kill. If you don't, a person will be killed at random.
.... 2. Each day (before 10pm), you should elect a champion to lead that night's research: a mini-game against one of the hackers, who will play using an anonymous account.
It is up to the players to count votes publicly & fairly.

Nanomods

Each player will receive a nanomod during the first turn. This is a special power that is consumed when used. During each turn, a player may either draw a new nanomod (discarding the old one if applicable), or cast their nanomod to use its power.

PM me to use a nanomod. You can do this at any time during the turn.

Queuing actions

Between turns, if you want to queue a vote for next turn, just post and ask people to count it. If you want to queue an action for the start of next turn, you can PM me as normal.

Locked until I get role PMs out over the next half an hour. Sorry, I'm a bit ill this morning. I'll obviously extend the first turn a bit. My bad!

Everyone should now have a role PM. (Quietly let me know via PM if I've forgotten to send yours.)

There will be an event at around 11.30 where you all find your first nanomods. Until then, introduce yourselves... the game starts now!

Turn 1 will last until 3pm because I was a bit late.

I’ve no idea what is going on, but am looking forward to getting a nanomod and kicking the hackers ass.

For clarification, if you use a nanomod in one turn can you then draw a new one in the next, or once you have used a nanomod is that it? I'm assuming the latter.

If you use a nanomod on Turn 4, then you can draw a new one Turn 5 and use it Turn 6.

It changed a few days back, I was moved from the Secretaries group to the Technicians one as it is more fitting what I do and I prefer purple to pink.

So - we have to firewall by 2pm? Or a random goes? (A true random wouldn’t be bad would it? Given usual approach is ‘kill a random’ on day 1)

Then again this event might give more info

Given that all plotting etc. must be done in thread and not in PM it may mean we need to be less random as there may be more to go on in chat and things if people can't PM to plan.

Assuming I read the rules right,.
