All characters unlocked and a few levels still to do. Had a staggering drop in frames when I went to an area with electric lizards and they all zapped at once. Slowed down to single frames until I had killed a few of them.

At 56 hours (demo playtime included) its value for money but nowhere near the heights of the first Hyrule Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors or even Pirate Warriors 4. A fun game but with a lot of padding via farming and a very slow currency reward.

I really didn't spend much time farming. I deliberately never did any cooking as I figured the resources would be better kept for quests, maybe that had quite a big effect? I also always prioritised monster part and battlefield specific rate up seals when fusing weapons.

I had to farm a few Lynels and Hinoxes much earlier on for some quests, but considering there are colosseum quests consisting of just a couple of those enemies it takes very little time at all. In endgame they were common enough to not be much of an issue (I didn't have to farm Lynels again, I did have a final need to farm about 7 Hinox guts but I just did the challenge that's two hinoxes and a lynel and got the drops after 4 runs). At one point I was out of bokoblin trophies, but I replayed a couple of story missions to go korok hunting and they net you plenty. Lizalfos ended up being my biggest farming need for specific tails and that ended up being the only time I actually paid attention to cooking as I stacked 3 dishes of monster part drop rate up and repeated the first ice training which takes not even 5 minutes.

I can see how it'd be easy to spend too many rupees and need to farm them if you don't hold back on fusing every weapon, especially in early game. Starting the champions with their tier 3 weapons was how the game could have caught me out, but I clocked how expensive they were to fuse into and switched the champions out to cheaper weapons for most of the game (I've not checked but I'm pretty sure it ends up much cheaper to upgrade a lower tier weapon then fuse it in a single go into a tier 3). I also only raised the weapon level limit once for Zelda when I unlocked the ability to do so, it just seemed far too expensive and unnecessary.

I finally beat the final timed mission. Was really difficult and I only had 20 seconds spare at the end. Now I'm just hunting for seeds. Got a couple of characters to level 100. My favourites to play as are link (boring but efficient), Impa (super over powered) and the first flying character unlocked.

Hope dlc is announced soon.

Was it the Fort Hateno one where you have to fight Astor and Ganon on the clock? I was having a right 'mare with that one until I realised you could stop the clock!

I thought I had glitched this when I started it and noticed the timer wasn't going down, it was only when another guardian finally reached the allied base that I realised the clock only runs down when it is under attack! Finished with just under 9 minutes to spare 8-)

That's annoying they don't say the clock can be stopped. I did think it was a massive leap in difficulty.

Yeah it's definitely unclear, I got lucky in that I didn't initially even notice the time limit so started by clearing out the guardians from around the fort. Only then did i notice the timer and the fact it wasn't moving!

Cool that you managed it without stopping the clock at all though! I guess you just had to rush past everything straight to the bosses.

So.....all I have to do is find seeds. I've set the sensor to find seeds. But, when I'm in mission they don't appear on the map. So do I need to use a guide/do it myself and look around each map for the X amount I have not found?

I had hoped I'd get an easier to find them as it's not massively fun.

I've just left the game at 99.4% complete and am not doing that final quest because it requires all of the korok seeds, just doesn't seem worth it. Sad I miss out on the original game's Link costume but it's not like there would be any more challenges left to play with it anyway.

My partner is playing this at the moment - we're finding the "KO counter" pretty funny. "Congratulations!!! You just slaughtered 2000 people!!! :toot: "

For someone* new to the Dynasty Warriors series who fancied a Zelda crossover, which is the better one to start with? Age of Calamity or Hyrule Warriors? The latter has the kitchen sink approach with Zelda history, but the latter looks thematically a little stronger and with plot hooks to BOTW.

Hyrule Warriors is a much better and significantly bigger game. The core of the first gameplay is combat and each mission is based around that. But the sequel adds a lot of farming and scavenger hunts.

Performance is better in the first game, the additional content doesn't exist in second game. However in the first game you have loads of adventure maps and that's thousands of additional battles and weapons.

Weapons are better in the first, flow of the game is better too. It also has a much better cast including Linkle and the final few unlocks are great unlike the final 2 in the sequel.

Hyrule Warriors is a game that has been refined and added to and ported and ported again. The sequel would be getting poor reviews of it wasn't for the Zelda tie in. Also the performance needs mentioning again, in the first game I can play as young link and kill hundreds in a minute, no slowdown. In the sequel I have dropped to single frames.

The added on giant sections are better in the first game as more control and better flow.

If you like this sort of game then Fire Emblem Warriors and it's season pass is super smooth, fast and brilliant fun. I'd even rate it above Hyrule warriors as the flow of gameplay is better.

I don't disagree with most of that zilla in that the first game is better with so much more content but I think you're underselling the appeal of the BOTW-stylings. They have obviously drawn in lots of players who let the first Hyrule Warriors pass them by (although potentially somewhat duped by the marketing into thinking it was a canonical prequel story, which it isn't really). For my girlfriend who has only played BOTW and Link's Awakening remake Age of Calamity has much more appeal.

I also think Age of Calamity is deserving of good reviews, it is easily one of my favourite games of last year. I don't think it'd be a bad choice at all.

Loving how enthusiastic Mipha is about using a weapon of mass destruction.

Yeah, this is why we went for Age of Calamity too. She's not a long-time series fan, so the BOTW styled content is a bigger draw for her than "general Zelda universe" stuff would be.

I finally played the demo of this.

Was good fun but seemed a bit repetitive, wasn't overly keen on needing to swap characters and also I found the move set somewhat uncoordinated. Like I'd go to do a specific move and it'd have end up with Link doing something else. I'd buy it if it was my sort of game.

The first Hyrule Warriors on WiiU doesn't have character swapping and I assure you it is much worse for it! The moves should be consistent too, but you have to be quite disciplined on counting the attacks for the right combos.

I need to get back on this now the DLC is out, but I might just wait for DLC 2 so I can play all the new content at once (especially as 2 is the more substantial drop)
