I also got the great fairies yesterday. Far too big so you seem to just constantly take damage and the switching gimmick is hard to learn, but I like how their stasis works and the specials and weak point smashes are fun (especially with the horse god).

The size makes them impractical for the zoomed out camera and korok hunting though

the switching just happens as you use moves theres not really anything you need to get the hang off as theres just the one move that varies

I got Hetsu yesterday but only briefly used them. The fact that they're even playable is impressive in itself. Probably won't use them as much compared to the main cast tho. So far I've been trying balance with playing everyone cuz' I genuinely enjoy them all so far. Also using the Spear with Link almost feels like it was made for me, I love it so much, good lord. You're basically an OP Dragoon and it's amazing.

I'm getting pretty tired of farming Hinox and Lynel trophies one by one for these upgrades...

I know Zelda canon is something of an oxymoron, but treating this as a proper, direct prequel is kind of a hard pill to swallow. The early activation of the towers was one thing, but the Chapter 5 time travel bullshittery takes the biscuit.

But then I did get to ride around on a big magic shark, so I'm very torn.

Yeah it's pretty crap and the game is so dragged out I still haven't seen the end to see what effects it will have

Even the joy of seeing locations you visited in BOTW in all their glory is starting to wear thin as the care and attention with the environmental story telling detail just isn't there. Instead stuff just feels plonked down and locations which originally seemed fascinating and intriguing now just feel plain and lifeless. Found this to particularly be the case with The Great Plateau and the Temple of Time, so many questions about it's placement, how it came to be and what was it like there existed after BOTW. Now seeing it in this and it just feels a bit boring.
It's just all a bit slap dash and feels like it's tainting BOTWs impeccable standing somewhat.

Tainting BOTW, come on now

I'm not as far through as you guys but it seems pretty obviously alt timeline (if canon at all). Which makes sense because its a spin-off but even ignoring that is pretty on brand for the Zelda timeline. All the challenge missions at least are explicitly not even canon to the game's main story!

I don't think they helped set expectations with all the "prequel" marketing for non musou fans though. The story isn't really the main appeal of the game to me - although I'm really enjoying it as a pretext for all the fan service!

ok i am going to put the answer to the canon question in this spoiler box read if you so desire. nothing to deeply story related by a bit of late game stuff
post game it confirms that terrako travelling through time created a different world from the main series. this is non canon to botw and does not affect the main game at all.

The best BOTW prequel story is Skyward Sword

What if BOTW2 is affected by the new time line

Well of course, but my point is it may turn out to be "canon" if BOTW2 goes down a similar time travel/alternative universe route which may give them more options to change up Hyrule.

Just finished Chapter 3 so I'm not at the crazy parts of the story yet. But judging based on some of the reactions I've got hints of I'm excited to see them for myself.

Post game when?

I’m not sure how that solves everything anyway.

Finished now. It’s a pretty great game with some questionable choices. The cutscene stuff is really high standard, and even though some of it is pretty silly and not really what I would have liked to happen, some of the character interactions are great. The drama is pretty cool and seeing backgrounds to characters is also pretty neat. Gameplay wise it is a bit of a slog, especially towards the end. The controls are ropey but there is fun to be had throughout with the tighter characters and the others provide a pleasant enough distraction, if only briefly. Side stuff is very meaty, almost just for the sake of it rather than adding anything to the game. Can be decent to just mindlessly mash through though. Shame the map lore didn’t really develop much from what you see in the demo. Only real annoyance for me was the weapon crap, the fusing and sealing and all that malarkey was bollocks and a complete waste of time, better of removing it completely.

To Zeldatube!

BOTW2 spoilers:

Baby guardian goes back to his time, only to find his dad has died and his mum got remarried to Biff.

Did they intentionally make Zelda really weak, because I stand by her being really fun but it can be tedious trying to close out tougher fights. Tried to do the side mission in chapter 3 where you had to take on several talus, moblins and a Lynel and I was literally one finisher away from ending it but the time ran out lol. Have only unlocked one new combo for her so far too. Hoping it's a case of her end game stuff being super OP.
