You see the game's box art? I now own that printed on a notepad, a one-sided poster, and the back of six postcards. The fronts are just each champion on a black background.

I'm not complaining, it was all just free bonus stuff, but it is very lazy

Apparently it's only really Hyrule field that has the massive frame drops. The other bit of stuttering is one of the characters lightning specials and the worst is split screen.

Wish my image sig would work

I'm surprised with how much I'm enjoying the combat. It's has more depth than I would have expected. It's crazy how unique every character feels so far. Can't wait to unlock every Champion. I spent waaaay too long in the first mission cutting down every tree just because you can lol. At least im set for wood materials ">,>

Only finished work half an hour ago so this is a nice way to unwind. Enjoying it more than I thought I would. Frame rate is janky as strawberry float though.

Unlocked a couple of Champions and seen some more story stuff. It definitely feels more ‘inconsequential’ what if scenario rather than the story of 100 years ago, which for me is a bit disappointing, but there’s still a lot to like. Some of it feels very questionable, like its not even following actual canon, even with the time travel.

I think my expectations may have been a little too high for this.

I haven’t played this yet, but the initial good impressions I’ve seen from the internet and the fact I loved the first Hyrule Warriors has me pretty hyped for this. Perfect pick up and play, and not too mentally taxing, which sounds ideal for me right now.

Youtube is ruthless with the spoilers. Tho it's now made me more hype to unlock them later on.

On to chapter 4. Never played a muso game before but am finding this a bit one dimensional. Not sure if that’s a common complaint. I was hoping it would do more with the BoTW setting and format than just using it as a template. The story stuff is fun and getting to battle around some familiar and expanded locations can be really great, especially with some of the newly developed locations. In terms of gameplay though it really is just mashing buttons with the occasional bit of enemy strategising. Not terrible by any means but as I say, one dimensional.

The map stuff which in the demo seemed like an intro into what could develop into some light RPG elements really doesn’t go anywhere beyond what it’s first introduced as. You just click through some flavour text (which because of the theming can add extra appeal), but it’s just that over and over again. There’s no character interaction, scenario development or anything that could really be described as a game feature.

It’s all enhanced somewhat by the story which is quite fun and the cutscenes which is obviously where the bulk of the effort has gone. Even that doesn’t really tie into BotW as much as I would like though. Still not hit the crunch point but I might start mainlining it a bit because the map fills up with chores pretty damn quickly.

All that said, it’s fairly inoffensive and can be fun to bash away at in short sessions. Hopefully the second half pushes the boat out a bit more. As things stand 7/8 seems about right.

I can't speak for modern musou games since I haven't played one since DW Strikeforce on PSP. But they all mostly have the same gist. Tho AoC has introduced more layers to the combat which I personally find refreshing for the genre. You can still mash but I like having the choice to be a bit more creative. I've read about folks saying certain bosses later on in the story are genuinely difficult which has me curious now. If this wasn't a Zelda game it wouldn't nearly be as engaging that's for sure tho.
