Raksha

19 years old. She uses a rapier in battle. She is the daughter of the noble Roswell family of Garman, and as a noble conducts herself politely. While confused by the lifestyle of the Drifting Village, she works with Adol and company using her profound knowledge of ancient ruins, and plants and animals. In battle she is fast and has good reach, but since she can’t target many enemies at once, she finds herself in trouble when surrounded.

Staff Comment: The Garman area is located in the northeastern part of the Romun Empire, and many of its people are made of fortitude and vigor. This is the first time Raksha is meeting Adol and company. By taking advantage of her reach, you can follow up a preemptive attack with consecutive attacks.

Sahad

41 years old. He uses an anchor in battle. He is a fisherman from the Greek area and has a lovable personality. He works with Adol in order to return to his hometown where his family is waiting. He has high attack power and can attack many enemies at once, but has open spots.

Staff Comment: When it comes to playable characters in the Ys series, he is the oldest. He was a passenger on the same boat as Adol.

System

Attacks have three attributes: “Slash,” “Shoot,” and “Strike.”

When you attack your enemy’s weak point, they’ll “Break” and all attributes will damage it.

Staff Comment: The Break system has an exhilarating feeling about it. We’re planning parts of the game that use the PS Vita touch screen. There is a possibility that Adol and friends will be wiped out by an Ancient attack. Ancients are completely different creatures from dragons and have no connection to the Five Dragons of Altago. Also, the jump action and switching between characters may seem similar to Tokyo Xanadu, but in this game, all of your party members appear on screen.

PostRe: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana - 2016 Japan - Blue haired girl is co-protagonist, Dana, whom you control in Adol's dream

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will have two protagonists, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals.

Joining Adol as a protagonist is the mysterious blue-haired girl we’ve previously seen in the game’s key visual, whose name is now revealed as Dana. She appears in Adol’s dreams, and through those dreams, you’ll be able to experience Dana’s way of life. Her power and speed exceeds even that of the veteran hero Adol.

Dana’s story, which Adol will see in his dreams, will affect his very adventure itself. Also, Dana seems to recognize Adol, and Adol’s actions will considerably affect Dana’s story.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is due out for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan this summer.

NISA announced at their event yesterday that this is coming to the US and UK in 2017, with both English and Japanese voice over options. :toot:

I noticed Ys Origin for PS4 vanished from the store. I wonder what happened there. Supposedly coming out on Tuesday now.

I've played the demo a few times now but each time I end up trying to get the best button configuration down and forget to play the actual game  Sad part is I actually find trying to get best pad layout possible pretty entertaining

Completed the demo last night. Really enjoyed it, especially when successfully executing Flash Guard against bosses 8-) Combo Flash Guard :datass:

Demo has all the difficulty settings unlocked from the off. I died in less than 15 hits on my first attempt on Nightmare :slol: Would have survived for an additional 5 hits had been arsed to re-config buttons again. (Demo's only downfall: it won't allow you to save button configurations.)

No one else playing this?

I dunno why but the demo at first didn't feel quite right, partly maybe because I was having such a hard time dodging projectiles off the plant mobs, but I've since got gud and can pretty much Flash Guard and Move at will. Well, that's true of FG. FM is still hit and miss. But the upshot of that is it *feels* like a Ys game now. :toot:

90 minutes in and I think I've fought 3 (sub?) bosses already

Mine arrived yesterday, but I just don't have time to play it yet. It was surprisingly weighty, I had no idea it came with an Artbook and Soundtrack selection CD.

Aye, that'd be the Day 1 edition.

Spent ages trying to get to next story target and just couldn't figure out how to reach it. Was sure I'd been everywhere and so concentrated on trying to get past a spot I *knew* required an ability I didn't yet poses but attempted it anyway :fp: After giving up on that, I went for another wander and it turned out I'd not yet been through one part of the map. It wasn't even hidden or anything. :fp:

Absolutely loving this. They've added so much stuff and yet it still feels like Ys. The night dungeons are straight up :dread:

Do not play this on normal. The only challenging portion on that setting was Night Mystery and that's in over 20 hours of play! So yeah, either choose the level above normal, or restrict using healing items and having team-mates on attack.

On to chapter 4 and finally fighting mobs which are putting up a bit of a fight (on normal). Also helps that I've decided to swap out skills which are at max for lower level ones.

Chapter 4 was s-l-o-w. Business end of it picked up up and then carried on being awesome well into chapter 5. 2nd night mission is *a lot* of fun, too.

I'm around 35 hours in and the game just introduced a new play style and then, a short while later, a new dungeon connected to said new play style. The game just keeps giving and giving. Amazing stuff.

I was so into the last session that I didn't even make any manual saves! Gotta be a first of some description for me as I am a serial saver.

Some of the stuff I've recently done: (without being too spoilery)

Btw, on normal setting this is much easier than Ys Origin was. Still great fun but if you found YsO too difficult going do not let that dissuade you from nabbing this; it has its challenging moments, but the learning curve is much more gentle.

The amount of game you get for your money is ridiculous; I beat the final boss and have since loaded up the complete save file and spent another few hours on top mopping everything up. I really do hope more people on here play this.
