I've used an Apple Mini iPad tablet for around eight years and I love it. Unfortunately time has worn down it's performance and the battery has totally gone now.

A pal has - very kindly! - given me a new Android tablet; it's a Xiaomi Pad Pro 6. A few hours in and I'm getting used to it... yeah, it's *okay*. It does the essentials and so that's great.

Man, it feels so clunky compared to an iPad, though :dread: . Some of my main bugbears are:

> Super tech for the price but it feels a bit cheap
> The touchscreen is imprecise. Editing text is "doing my head in"
> The default wallpaper is dark and the app icon title text is black. Ridiculous... you can't see it!
> My eight-year old iPad performs a bit better than this more recent tablet

But, hey, Apple stuff is stupidly expensive and I am lucky enough to have been given this new tablet so I will stick with it and be grateful for it :) .

At least you know why your mate gave it away for free now

... . I feel like an ungrateful husk as my mate was very generous in getting it for me and it does do all the essentials.

But, yeah, after eight years of using an iPad it certainly is... err... "different" in terms of the user experience. I'm gonna stick with it, though!

I bought my son a cheap Amazon Fire tablet and it was strawberry floating awful. It worked, but barely and was so slow to be almost unusable.

Probably the worst present I've ever bought anyone.

I'd rather stick my dick in a blender. But that's true of most things.

Android tablets seem to only ever be either cheap (under £200) chinese made and barely up to the job or the other extreme of being a known brand with reasonable specs but massively overpriced (Samsung Galaxy tab being nearly a grand is ridiculous).

It's the reason why I opted for a Surface Pro, it was the same price as the Galaxy tab but a lot better specced.

To be fair, it is okay. I can surf the net, play vids on YouTube, stream stuff (although I haven't actually watched anything yet) and use Discord.

It's just a bit clunky and it doesn't process as smoothly as an iPad. But, hey, I'm using it to post on GR right now so it can't be that bad!

Something like this might make it at least feel a bit snappier - Decreasing/Removing animation speeds

Also I recommend using a different launcher. I've used Nova Launcher for years. It'll let you change and customise most of the UI to your preference.

Thanks for the heads up, DC. I guess that a good aspects about Android is that it's customisable. I'll take a look!

PS I'm posting from the tablet right now 8-) .

As someone who spent far too long (years!) with an HP Stream 14 Laptop I feel your frustrations…though there is something oddly satisfying making do with cheapo hardware, removing every bit of unnecessary bloat possible in an attempt to get it to work just that little bit faster. In terms of bang-for-my-pennies, it was incredibly good value for money (also came with a years subscription to Office 365). Yes, it was slow and everything took an age, but goddammit it worked. The plastic creaked but it was robust. You could chuck it around, and not care if it got scratched.

Has to bin it off eventually though as the flash storage was so minuscule I could no longer security update Windows. A ‘design oversight’.

Wouldn’t give up my MacBook Pro 16” M1 now though obviously. But I managed to save up because of that HP Stream. And for that I’ll be forever grateful for the greatest workhorse laptop… {Clarkson Voice} IN THE WORLD.

For the sake of the forum, I hope Android tablets are capable of inserting images into Excel.

Oh, man, those days  . The U was my most-used web access device at that time!

Thankfully my old iMac is still working so cutting edge graphics work can continue :toot: .

Looking at the specs for a Pad Pro 6 it certainly doesn't seem like a slouch, I was expecting a lot worse based off what you said.

Problem with Android tablets is very few apps are designed for tablets, they're just blown up phone apps. iPad has the tablet infrastructure down from hardware to software.

I know I’ve moved onto to a iPhone XR/Mac Mini M2 from an iPhone/iPad combo (as I’ve always wanted a Mac), but their iPad line is a great set of products, but like with nearly anything it’s getting overpriced and last time I checked, it had far too many iPads to choose from. Sometimes it’s just best having the Mini, standard iPad and then an iPad Pro to choose from.

Glad you’re happy with your new (to you?) tablet though Jawa, having used Android tablets (even just for brief times) I’d not personally buy one, but if it works for you then fair enough. You’ll be back on the iPads soon enough though, people took the piss out of them when they first came out, but Apple have the tablet side of things more or less aced.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.
It does everything I need however, my eyes have gone to gooseberry fool and its time for a change.
I can confirm though, if someone gives me a tablet gratis, I won't be coming on here to run the strawberry floater down.

I think I'm an outlier, but I use my tablet exclusively for web browsing. Maybe every now and then I'll watch a short YouTube video, but it's just a web browser really. It's a galaxy tab s2 so was pretty good 10 years ago but the battery is so gooseberry fool now. I looked at replacing it to see the equivalent is now a grand :|

I also use my galaxy s22 ultra almost as a music player, WhatsApp machine and a web browser. Barely use it for anything else.
