I’m also not sure if my less than ideal shift pattern at work could be part of the issue as I get nowhere near the recommended 3 hours between eating before going to bed due to having to try and get to sleep fairly early most nights, my days off are nearly always trouble free, so not sure if I’m getting myself unnecessarily stressed re work for some reason as well. No idea if the latter portion would impact things or not kind

Might try the Twining tea bags Ironhide mentioned if they sell them where I work as I do love a cuppa

Every doctor I have seen about IBS have always mentions stress but I always doubt it's one of my trigger points as I am a very laid back person.

The only reason I think it’s partly stress related (in my case at least) is that on my days off where I don’t get a little bit stressed about getting anywhere near what resembles a trouble free few hours of sleep I’m fine probably 80% of the time. When I’m at work it’s probably 50/50 whether I’ll have a good day or bad day, last few days have been a bit better thankfully so hopefully I’m going through a decent spell, however long it might last for.

Is peppermint oil meant to be quite helpful for this then? I’ve never tried it.

Sounds like stress is one of your trigger points then if you can pin point it like that.
Yes peppermint oil I believe is an antispasmodic and works to relax your gut to stop it from going into spasms which in turn causes cramping and other stomach pains.
My favourite IBS medication is Senocalm but it's kind of expensive.

Yeah I’ve been off work today and been perfectly fine, I just get myself worked up mentally about getting to sleep which is probably part of what causes the stress that may cause my IBS type symptoms.

I’m tempted to get some IBS relief tablets and take them as and when needed to see if that might help, take it peppermint oil comes as tablets as well? I drink a fair bit of peppermint tea but obviously tablets would be much more concentrated.

Yes Colpermin is peppermint oil. You can buy it without a prescription.

read that as “explosive”, which I guess would be preferable

Apparently one peppermint oil capsule is the equivalent of 67 cups of peppermint tea's worth of peppermint oil.

Definitely try rhe capsules.

I honestly can't recommend Alflorex enough. The only down side is once you stop taking it, the effects of IBS all come back. But when you're on it, the symptoms are like 70% better in my experience.
Like I only go to the toilet once a day as opposed to 2-3. I can eat stuff that's I usually cannot and get away with it.

Thanks, might try getting some capsules first then and see how they go.

As above, I might get some peppermint capsules first but if they don’t do the trick might look into buying some Alflorex, looking at the capsule size I might struggle though as I hate taking tablets  Although on Amazon they have some chewable ones.

'Caders who've used Buscopan before...
Is it taken as a preventive, or is it to be taken when you're having a flare up?

Common sense suggests it's to be taken when symptoms show up, but just wondering if that's everyone else's interpretation too.
