That comedy show's already been done, though.

Haven't seen that before and it made me laugh...

Did you know she wrote to the McCanns begging for money to look for Shannon, she also based a lot of her ''acting'' on having watched Kate McCann , I think id have picked a better role model myself, like someone who wasn't named as a suspect.

I think the point people are making is that jokes about Maddie McCann have been done to death now (poor wording...)

Mine isn’t, sorry. I just find it to be incredibly poor taste. You’re writing material and THAT is the go-to? Pretty vile tbh.

If you start talking about McCann a massive chunk of the audience are just going to groan and roll their eyes straight away. And once you've lost them you don't get them back.

Some of them because of taste, but a lot of them because it will just be variations of McCann jokes they've all heard before endless times over the years. Why not at least try something original? Perhaps a subject that's pretty unique to you and your own life?

Its only a 5 minute set and this is only part of it along with rape, murder and autism, different comedy appeals to different people and I happen to like dark stuff it cant all be fluffy light do you remember wagon wheels Peter Kay stuff, if no one likes it fair enough we can get this thread locked down and hopefully you all get more support in your endeavours.

I think everyone is only trying to help.

You have to be VERY thick skinned to be a stand up, if you can't take criticism then you're going to be in trouble if you get any hecklers.

Madeline McCann, rape and autism jokes?

You can’t just play Cards Against Humanity once and call that a routine.

Calm down mate. I’ve wished you well already and I’ll do it again. Dumpster-diving comedy is popular, no doubt, but it’s not my scene. But again, good luck and fair play for having a go at it.

I respect your bravery and commitment, and I want you to succeed at whatever you do whilst being your authentic self, but this stand up routine sounds like it'll put neurodivergence awareness back by about thirty years.

Only reason id joke about autism is because I am and it would be joking about myself and my things.

What’s the qualifier for the rape and murder?

I watched the McCann documantary on Netflix a while back. It seems fair to say the media were not as 'kind' to the parents as some here have suggested.

You could tell the audience some funny things that happened to you. You can make them up.
If You are stuck I can give you a couple of my monologues that are both true and hmmm, may involve getting a short custodial sentence.

Ultimately this thread just demonstrates that comedy is something that can't be described and debated in this way, it's about delivery and performance. Jokes about taboo subjects can be a death sentence if done badly, but can also be incredibly effective if the mechanisms are employed, or subverted, correctly.

That said, as a first go at doing it I would be mindful of just how much "out there" stuff I took a swing at

I respect you wanting to do your comedy as dark as you like, but I'd maybe prepare some less bleak stuff to fall back on. I went to see Reg Hunter once, and he abandoned what was clearly meant to be a long stretch of pretty on edge material just a few minutes in, because the audience was not at all on board, saying "if you didn't like that, you'd hate the rest," and swiftly moving on to something totally different.

Reg Hunter is great , and yeah I have about 15 minutes of Material and a 5 minute set to fill , so I do have stuff of varying levels.
