PLATFORMS: NSW/PS4/XBO/PC
RELEASE DATE: 3rd December 2020

The game that was Gods and Monsters (original thread https://grcade.co.uk/t:gods-and-monsteres---ubisift---releases-25022020?f=2&hilit=Gods+and+monsters ) looks like a cross between Assassins Creed Odyssey and Breath of the Wild. Looks right up my street, can’t wait to pick it up.

Looks like Assassin's Creed but with more freedom. Not sure about the art style but it's nice to see a brighter looking game.

Will be very interesting to see how this turns out.

I suspect season pass, micro transactions, early playable game for those who pre order and multiple versions.

Won't buy it for all of those reasons and because Ubisoft is scum.

Wish my image sig would work

Ubisoft has changed the look of the lead character, Fenyx now has a tough androgynous look which I first thought was male. Ubisoft have depicted her with an expression that makes her eyes slant and given her a lopsided smile, probably to show toughness but she just looks surly.

A bit different from the cutesy doe-eyed design in the original reveal, I wonder if it’s in response to the story about them a lead saying females can’t be a game lead.

Stinks of a game that will be a tough trivia question in a few years time. Mythology is just so easy and cheap to revert to as a theme - everything in the public domain so all free for Ubisoft to use too.

Can't imagine this being anything better than a competent but loveless game.

I’ve watched a little bit of this impressions vid. Visually it’s sumptuous with bright, vivid colours, an actual feast for the eyes. At about the 3.17 minute mark there is a level that is like an ancient temple in the middle of space, it stand out. Gameplay-wise I’m not doing cartwheels. Its a Zelda BOTW clone with a Greek mythology skin made by the AC Odyssey team. Not a bad thing but my worry is that it will be too derivative. Yong Yea says the game does do enough to differentiate itself. I reckon it will be a solid 8/10!

I can't stop reading it as "Fenn-ix"

I'm definitely interested - Greek mythology is great and it's clearly heavily inspired by one of the best games ever made - but it's definitely a wait-and-see where I want to hear actual impressions.

There's so many games that draw from various aspects of Greek mythology but much less with it as their explicit setting/theme, so I don't think it's too derivative or boring from that perspective. The art style alone does a lot to differentiate it from AC Odyssey, it's definitely no God of War, and Kid Icarus has hardly been oversaturating the market!

I reckon it will get reviews which are the equivalent of polite applause; "looks good, plays well but nothing memorable, is obviously a breath of the wild homage and an attempt at another ubisoft-brand franchise, has too many special editions and is riddled with XP boost and time saver microtransactions, at least 3 executives involved were fired for abuse."

This could be a pretty snazzy showcase game for next gen.

Really could turn out to be one of the best games of the year, I'm really impressed with what has been shown so far. Looks like the game will have plenty of personality with two narrators bickering over Fenyx. Hopefully your weapons won't degrade, like in Botw.

From the previews there is no weapon degrading in this thankfully

Like Hell they'll mention it in reviews. Er - like Hades I guess?

Yep, this is an UbiSoft game, so it's a game made by a company that promoted and protected sexual harassers, made a horrible non-apology of it, and won't admit that its CEO should have known and should have acted. Just a reminder! :D

The sense of humour and the fact it's a colourful and upbeat game is unique and makes it stand out from the crowd. Also the size of the game being smaller than assassin's creed makes it look like more of a game and less of a huge time commitment.

It'll be interesting to see how it reviews.

It looks great, but with Watch Dog Legions, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, not sure I've got time for another Open World game from Ubisoft this year!

Will probably wait until the new year when it'll drop in price hopefully.

I tried the demo through the Stadia app on my phone. The gameplay in the demo is nothing really new but it looks lovely. Not sure about the 'banter' between the gods, though. Most of it was painfully unfunny and the cut scenes went on too long.
