Incredible Crisis #3
New topic! New situation! A good one?!? Is this a "good" crisis?!?

Situation You are relaxing on a Sunday afternoon, leisurely looking over GRcade, when a bright flash occurs and you hear a voice... "Sometimes they come back.. . choose one!". This is your opportunity to get back a videogame system that you lost/sold/gave away! It's an Incredible Crisis!

Action You can select one videogame system that you have previously got rid of... and you will also get all of the games that you had with it. Now! Choose now!

You know there is a crisis. You know the situation. Deal with it!

If it counts I would like the Jamma Arcade Cab I used to have , I had to leave it behind when I left my old house with my daughter.

If not that then my Neo Geo AES , I purchased it when about 16 then sold it for a profit because I just couldn't afford to get any new games for it or a second joystick etc

This is tricky... a fabulous opportunity, but tough to choose.

In my mind I'm considering the Commodore Vic-20, the Sega Master System, the Atari 520 STe and the Sega Megadrive (PAL Asian version).

My gaming all started with the Vic-20 and I do have fond memories of using it; very basic games, very tough games, hugely blocky games and text adventures! I even had the 32k (gasp!) switchable (i.e. choose 8k, 16k or 32k of extra memory) RAM pack to play larger games, too. Terrific times... but I think I'll keep my rose-tinted memories rather than re-visiting the system.

I sold my MS console and games - around 35, all mint boxed - for an absolute pittance when I moved out. Almost instantly regretted it, particularly as I had Power Strike I and II which nowdays are worth several hundred quid. Subsequently I have re-purchased a MS and some of the games that I had... but certainly not all. I would love to get a "spare" console and all of those games back!

The Atari ST was terrific. I loved the design and it had a great range of games, often a bit cheaper than the rival Amiga versions. I bought the 520 STe at launch and it came with a "Power Pack" of around 22 "big name" games; Atari must have spent a lot of money building such a collection to give away with the systems! A couple of years later I sold the STe and switched to Amiga, but I remain very fond of the Atari.

The Mega Drive... oof, this still stings. I imported a PAL Asian model that could play UK/Europe, US and Japanese carts. I built up a collection of around a dozen Japanese games including Alien Storm, Strider and Bare Knuckle, plus some US games. And then... I sold it all. I just don't know why... [tears].

So, in this Crisis, I choose... the Mega Drive (PAL Asian model) and the Japanese and US games. It'd be fantastic to try them all out again!

kerr... prepare yourself... it counts! In this Incredible Crisis, you have your Jamma cab back! That must have been fantastic to use; what games did you have for it, dude?

When I got the Jamma cab it had a CPS1 Board in it with the Pang 3 mini board on it, then I spent like £10 on a Jamma board for some football game it was a bootleg fake copied from a tecmo soccer game cant remember which one. Then I got myself a Neo Geo MVS 1 slot board and about 8 Neo Geo MVS carts for it , I still have the neo and the CPS1 and the Jamma board just no machine for them to go in.

This one’s easy. I’ve never given any of them up. There is nothing to come back.

Wow! That's good going, rinks... you clearly like to keep hold of stuff :-).

I love the Amiga... and, hey, your Plus model has now returned, Gem! Any particular games you're gonna replay?

Ah! It's always a good time to play on the Mega Drive. I have that Buck Rogers game and - though I've not played it - my younger brother used to put it on for hours.

I think the only system I've ever sold, given up, or lost that I haven't subsequently replaced would be my BBC Micro Model B from when I was a kid.

Endless hours playing knock-off clones of Donkey Kong, Pacman, Space Invaders, as well as stuff like Repton, Last Ninja, Chuckie Egg and the old "Play it again Sam" compilations that my dad would sometimes bring home.

My mum was a teacher as well, so I had copies of all the edutainment stuff too like Grannys Garden, DragonQuest and Geordie Racer.

strawberry floating loved that system.

EDIT: Not 100% sure what actually happened to it. I think my mum took it to school at some point. Probably after I got my GameBoy and SNES I would think.

GameCube. I got a lot of money for that bad boy and didn't really have space for all of it, but man I miss that stuff. :(

The beeb! What a terrific computer that was; so well made and the BASIC was just excellent. The display was rock solid and crystal clear on a proper monitor, too. I have never owned one but I did use one at school and then, pretty extensively, at college.

Cheeky Devlin wrote:...Endless hours playing knock-off clones of Donkey Kong, Pacman, Space Invaders...

The BBC B sure did have some tremendous "copies" of the popular arcade titles and I recall Killer Gorilla (Donkey King) as being very good. I remember that Superior Software put out some top quality stuff on the system.

Cheeky Devlin wrote:...as well as stuff like Repton, Last Ninja, Chuckie Egg...

Repton! A great series; I played the earlier titles on the Beeb at school and then got Repton 3 for my C64. They were terrific action-puzzlers; kinda like Boulderdash but with "zoomed in" graphics and with more puzzles to solve. I first played Elite on the Beeb at school, too - I later got it for my C64 but it couldn't handle the vector graphics as well as the Model B!

Cheeky Devlin wrote:...and the old "Play it again Sam" compilations that my dad would sometimes bring home...

I vaguely recall the title and thought that they were something to do with Superior Software... and, yeah, after checking they were published by Superior; initially compilations of their own games but later featuring titles from other publishers, too. I also hadn't realised that Superior bought out Acornsoft who were another big hitter in the BBC market.

Top memories there, Dev, and now it's kinda back - even if only in our minds - thanks to the power of Incredible Crisis!

Ouch! It's nice getting the dough but, yeah, I get that feeling of gaming loss, mhtl. However, you have made a decision... and your GC is back; ready for you to enjoy those games once more :-).

Incredibly difficult crisis!

I've traded, sold, lost or donated a few systems over the years and it's really hard to try and pick one specific candidate to return! The systems that I can remember having at one point but that are no longer in my possession are as follows:

ZX Spectrum +3
Amiga 500
Mega Drive
Game Gear
PS1
Nintendo 64
Game Boy Color
GBA
Wii
XBOX

Out of these I think the one I'd probably go for would be the N64 as it's the system where I think playing on original hardware would make the most difference to the feeling I would get - that controller is so unique that replaying games on a modern one just wouldn't replicate the memories well enough!

Jen! You have certainly passed on plenty of consoles over the years; you're clearly a man who is always looking to the future!

That's a good shout as the controller certainly was a bit different; not loved by all but I enjoy using it. Anyhow... your N64 (and any games you had for it) are now returned! I hope it can plug into your modern TV :shifty: .

Oof. Another soul absolutely wracked with regret over a lost console... I can relate to that, Victor! Presumably a GRcadian is playing those consoles and games *right now*! Dang. But... this is the Incredible Crisis and anything can happen. And... Victor, your N64(s) and games are back! In your mind you can juggle those chunky carts, slam in the expansion pack and now play forever :toot: .
