Do you think we can glean anything from the tribe names? TRIBE YER EYES MATE sounds like something Ob or Preezy may have come up with to me, but obviously could just be a bluff name like we were considering.

Guarantee Ob, Preezy or Tomous are in that group.

I Agree.

We've actually got a decent team with people like DML, Qikz and site23, all fairly knowledgeable about mafia games and all good at strategic thinking.

The trouble is this isn't an ordinary mafia game. There are no roles, there's nothing really to go on about who is what team and even so even if you can work out what team someone is I don't think it really helps at all. It might be because I still honestly don't really understand the rules at all though, but you can't really play this like a normal mafia game.

Thanks Ironhide but I wouldn't put too much faith in me, I haven't played one of these in quite a while! :slol:

It will be interesting to see how active the voting is. It is a chance to win points but voting correctly actually puts you at risk of your tribe being identified from the points that get awarded if it ends up as the majority, particularly if there's not a massive turnout in voting numbers.

Deducing other players tribes means we can gain points in the vote, and then by killing them once their tribe is public. Although again, the caveat is that voting could actually give your own tribe away when points are dished out.

EDIT: Also just to confirm I believe we have now all posted on Day 1, so same again tomorrow and we can consider redeeming for a SAVE power, or holding on for 3 days and getting a KILL power.

I think I have a decent handle on the rules and can maybe discern some of the "game design" intent behind them. I hope Dan doesn't feel too stressed about everyone saying they're hard ( :slol: ) - I don't think they're that hard, I think they're just new and unfamiliar.

The game is divided into two phases.

During the week

Every day someone will throw a name out there - like Drumstick suggesting Chris today - and then you have to think, "hmm, which Tribe are they in?". If you guess right and your guess wins, you will receive Victory Points.

However, because both votes and Tribe point totals are public, the more votes you participate in, the more likely it is someone else will be able to triangulate your tribe. (As well as matching up point totals, there may also be other patterns in voting behaviour, like noticing a block of people who never vote for a particular Tribe.)

During the weekend

Then, the weekend is kind of similar to lynching in Mafia. By private vote, two of the five people that were investigated in the week are killed. If you vote to lynch a person whose Tribe was previously correctly identified and they die, you will receive Victory Points.

The ultimate goal is to achieve numerical domination, so you want to vote to save Tribe members, but also vote to lynch identified people to receive Victory Points.

Separately to those core parts of the game, Dan is also going to run extra minigames throughout that will probably lead to more information and (of course) Victory Points.

So I think the core tensions are:
1. Do you participate in lots of votes, giving away information about yourself, but potentially accumulating Victory Points?
2. Assuming a Tribesmate is up for lynch, do you prioritise voting to save them or voting to accumulate Victory Points?
(There is likely a similar information vs. Victory Points tension for the minigames too but we haven't seen them yet.)

EDIT: Dan says below vvvvv that this isn't quite right as you don't get Victory Points for a lynch, only for using a KILL power. But we do need to decide "do we save people will SAVEs or try to accumulate points by firing off KILLs when someone's Tribe becomes known?".

The tricky thing is that our lack of familiarity means we won't instictively know what a decent play is in a given siutation, whereas we all have a decent idea of what works and what doesn't work in a Mafia game. Hopefully this means other people slip up and make silly mistakes and not us. :shifty:

Happy to move to WhatsApp as I'll inevitably need a nudge at some point to post one day.

Voting we need to be well spread as if we go all in on one tribe and score big, we'll be easy to identify.

Apologies if this has already been said, started this message at 11ish.

I think our best play is to spread out votes 2 across each tribe. But also be mindful of the total number of votes. We really want 5 voters in a pot before we add our 2nd person to that tribe who is then the 6th total person, as that guarantees there is at least one other tribe with 2 people voting for that tribe name so it's easier for us to hide in.

Thought I ought to clarify @site23 - you don't earn any points if someone is lynched; only if they're killed using a power

Ah OK, that's interesting! So that bit applies more to the decision to SAVE vs KILL then. Cool!

While you're here I do have a question! If you use SAVE on a person, how long does it last? Does a "SAVE" give you armour against a "KILL" basically indefinitely, until an attempt is made?

That is correct, though it does not protect from the weekend in-thread vote kill.

If any of you are in outside contact with OrangeRKN can you ask him to clarify which tribe he's voted for, as it's been interpreted multiple ways.

We haven't set up any outside chat unfortunately, I'm not sure if anyone else has his contact details.

Given that he didn't capitalise pro-village but did capitalise Red Tribe I'd have read it as a vote for the tribe named Red Tribe for what it's worth.

Yes I am minded to interpret it literally - the thread appears to noe be doing the same so I'll not intervene

ORKN's vote was for "Red Tribe" and it's been counted in the Vote Quote as for "Red Tribe". I think that's the correct outcome.

I'm interested to find out how the tribes were selected. Was there like a team captain who picked players?

I just find it really weird there's so many of us that are linked in some way by certain threads here that I wonder if the other tribes maybe have something similar going on? Maybe that'd make it too obvious, but I just find it odd how basically every member who posts in the anime thread is in here. Do we have any members who have never posted in that thread/about anime before on the forum at all?

I've never posted about anime.

Well, I prob did like twice about 3 years ago.

It's a fun idea but it's just a coincidence. Dan confirmed the teams were randomly generated - he was talking about how he'd already had a go at doing it, like some trial runs, before the game started.

Need to catch up on One Piece as dropped it a few years back but now I'm so far back it's paywalled on Crunchyroll :x I also need to catch back up on Attack on Titan.

Also hard to justify starting/finding a new anime when you're in your late 30s and I'm too busy having to be an adult.

Just a note to say we are over represented in the vote with 6/21 votes, and the average would be 5.25/21

Our ideal is to keep within the ratio as otherwise we may be more easily identified than other tribes if we win the vote.

Note that 21/31 votes is a good turnout so c.5 votes per tribe in a vote is going to be there or thereabouts each day.

Edit: Do we have a data analyser in our group? We'll need to be analysing voting patterns to understand people's tribes.
