Around 4 minutes in, is that a Super Mario Kart prototype running in the background?

Nah that's Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race.

Interesting wee watch though.

I stumbled across this article yesterday. Thats some early 90's games coverage right there. I particularly liked the bit where the yuppie was "playing" that game whilst "game over" flashed repeatedly on the screen.

That Mario maker prototype

What a strange way to frame a story about Nintendo, pretty much BEWARE THE JAPANESE but don't worry they can't understand English so anything with a keyboard is safe!

Nintendo have a rule where workers can only be shown working on pre-existing titles when any office recording was going on.
There was a German documentary about Nintendo after the release of Star Fox where exactly that happened.

"The Japanese are good at copying western technology" but struggle with the creative side of things? Wow that's pretty brazen.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Yeah, obviously MS, IBM and Apple are the pinnacle of creative enterprise and nothing innovative has come out of Japan in the 70s/80s.

Despite that that program is some 40 years after the de-imperialisation of Japan, it's strawberry floating jingoistic bollocks. I know this was 30 years ago but wow. I guess it is kinda more offensive to me now I have family over there and some people still believe stuff like this.

I once had a conversation with some nerd a couple years ago about how "Japanese manga are just copying western comics, they saw comics from US soldiers during THE GREAT CULTURAL STEAL aka WW2 and then starting copying those". I'm like, dude, this society has an entire strawberry floating language based around pictograms, had you ever considered that visual communication is just, well, literally the default mode of recorded information over there? Cartoons are everywhere in Japan, and they're not just considered "Cartoons" either, which is a shitty word for "low art for children". I pointed out how exaggerated facial expressions and poses exist in statues and murals thousands of years old in temples I have actually visited. He's like, "but, but, how can you not see, I don't understand. It's obviously the same format as MAH COMICS". Such logic. Very culture.

Our alphabet is ripped off from the Romans and Greeks, our numerals are Arabic. Ignorant strawberry floats.

Still, an interesting if profoundly condescending "Safari" clip.
