I searched it and The Sun helpfully told me it is the convex side that is flavoured

Pringles are saddle shaped that could quite literally mean either side, what absolute hacks

How exactly does this work? Do you have to view size through a particular perspective?

For example, if you measured it purely based on height, clearly as soon as you realise the sun is taller than about 12 feet, you're closer to the atom. Same concept with width/depth.

Are we talking mass? If so, I'm still struggling to get my head around it.

As a ratio, the sun is ~773 million times bigger than you, but you are ~3.6 billion times bigger than an atom.

The sun is closer in size to your mum that it is to a human.

The diameter of a carbon atom is ~3.4*10^-10 meters.
The height of a human is ~1.8 meters.
The diameter of the sun is ~7.0*10^8 meters.

If you took two people and doubled one in height every time you halved the other, the person being scaled up would become as tall as the sun before the person being scaled down would be as short as an atom.

Not sure what you mean by the 12 foot thing!

Ah, I see, you have to view it in proportion.

By the 12 foot thing I simply mean if I had a magic ruler, the atom would show as 3.4*10^-10 metres tall (definitely knew that before you wrote it :shifty:). Move along roughly six feet on the ruler and there we are at human size, then by the time you've gone another six feet, you're still a whole (7*10^8)-6 feet (lol at mixing imperial/metric systems in the same formula) away from the height of the sun.

He is measuring distance additively.

An atom is ~0 ft tall, we are ~5-6 ft tall, the sun is ~5 billion feet tall. ~5-6 is closer to ~0 than to ~5 billion.

At least now I know the word additively. I always thought those were the things in my cereal that make me feel all tingly.

In retrospect I'm actually not sure additively (vs. multiplicatively) is actually quite right, though it makes sense in context.

I think it might be more precise to say that you were measuring the difference linearly, whereas OrangeRKN is measuring differences logarithmically. As he said, there are more "halfings" between a person and an atom than there are "doublings" between a person and the sun. But halfings/doublings are not a linear measure of the difference between two numbers - it's a logarithmic measure.

What's heavier, 1kg of sun, or 1kg of atoms?

The answer is the sun. The sun is heavier than an atom.

Depends if they are feather atoms or brick atoms.

Proportionally is the only sensible way to view it

By your logic, my hand is "closer" in size to an atom than it is to my body

Oblov thinks atoms are 3 feet tall.

Lol
