I can remember going to buy Tyranny of Souls when it was released in 2005.

His last three studio albums are exceptional. Easily match Maiden's best.

IRON MAIDEN AND ANGRY BIRDS, TOGETHER AT LAST

This week in unexpected-but-adorable collaborations: Rovio Entertainment, the creators of the international smartphone phenomenon Angry Birds, have teamed up with metal legends/reason Kerrang! exists, Iron Maiden, for a special version of Angry Birds Evolution.

As one of the most recognisable figures in metal, Eddie, Maiden’s iconic mascot, will be a playable character as “Eddie The Bird” in Angry Birds Evolution this Halloween. That’s good fun!

“Our team is filled with massive Iron Maiden fans and Eddie was both our first choice & a natural fit in Angry Birds Evolution,” said Miika Tams, VP Games and Product Lead for Angry Birds Evolution, “It’s about time his status as a true rock icon was celebrated and we know that fans will love seeing Eddie The Bird raise hell on Bird Island!”

Players can crank up their Angry Birds Evolution team on October 18 during a special two week character event for a very metal Halloween. Players who successfully recruit what everyone’s calling Eddie The Bird to their team during that time will be able to keep him forever.

In other news:

Reminder that Bruce Dickinson's autobiography, 'What does this button do?' is due out on the 19th. I can see it being one of the more interesting ones, even if he barely even talks about Maiden. The man's pretty cool.

Ha. Not the first time iron maiden have dabbled in a crossover.

Nicko's appearance in The Sooty Show in the eighties is fantastic.

A lot of bands are doing these types of things now. That doesn't make it less ridiculous.

I remember Megadeth ran a bootcamp a while back. As much as I love Rust in Peace, I cannot think of much worse people to be around than Dave Mustaine.

Rust in Peace is a great album and I never realised how ridiculous the lyrics to almost all of the songs were until I went back to it this week on Rock Band for one of the challenges. Example:

"Maybe I've seen too much, Hangar 18, I know too much"

Great songwriting skills there Dave, rhyming too much with with too much.

(Just want to re-iterate that I think Rust in Peace is the best thrash album after Master of Puppets and possibly Ride the Lightning)

Ha, true, that line's a bit ripe. But then within seconds you've got the great couplet:

"Military intelligence,
Two words combined that can't make sense."

I do like that to be fair, it's a surprisingly intelligent bit of commentary from dangerous Dave.

I remember there being a couple of absolute turds in the title track as well, but I'll need to have a look at the lyrics. A lot of it seemed to be comparing a nuclear supercomputer to his penis.

The 'Immense in my girth, erect I stand' line is my favourite lyric from the album. I like the subtle likening of a nuclear missile to a penis.

I tend to think the album lyrics are very tongue in cheek in places. I like that about it. Plus his vocal performance is the perfect fit for the lyrics.

Best thrash album, only Puppets, Reign in Blood and Terminal Redux come close. Musically, it is totally ridiculous. Everytime I listen to Take No Prisoners, my jaw hits the floor.

Questionable tie-in aside, very curious to see what the setlist ends up looking like. FTGGOG and Somewhere in Time featuring in the teaser is promising.

I've been making my way through Bruce's autobiography audiobook. It's been an entertaining listen so far, he's a great narrator.

Would be great to see those two in the set, I can't recall seeing them play Somewhere in Time when I've seen them and haven't seen the other since the AMOLAD tour.

strawberry float it, more dates can only be a good thing. Besides, Maiden have precedent for releasing janky games and then putting a tour on the back of it gawd love 'em

Got tickets to see Maiden in London in August. Ridiculously excited, never seen them live before. With that and Slayer in November and having seen Hell Is For Heroes and A in February it's shaping up to be a good year for gigs. :D
