Weird, PC has been digital only for a long time and rarely suffers from those problems.

I don't know why people keep talking about losing access to digital games.

I think your discs and cartridges are far more likely to degrade or you even have hardware failure long before someone like Microsoft go bankrupt.

P.T. from the PS4 was removed from the ps shop and is no longer available, even if you 'own' it.

Outrun 2 is gone due to the ferrari licence, and so on.

It has happened with Nintendo online consoles (Wii, DS) and - probably at some point - others (Wii U, 3DS); also Sony kinda tried it with PS3 before delaying it.

I do agree about physical games wearing out, though; I have a few DVD films were the discs have clouded/corroded and won't play. Ideally digital should be a dream situation where your purchases are stored and available "forever" but I don't think it's quite like that - at least, it isn't for (most) consoles right now.

It's always possible that MS/Sony/Nintendo/whoever will remove access to old digital games. So far I think games have only been deleted for new customers, "owners" still have the ability to download them.

I can see the concern. For me though, it doesn't bother me. I've always sold/traded in consoles when moving to the next gen and so have always lost access to my old games. Digital has meant I still do play old games that I "own" as it's easy enough to access them.

I don’t know what PT is but you really can’t launch the game anymore if you have it? Same for Outrun? And you can with a disc?

Sounds shitty on Sonys part

It was that Silent Hill prequel project by Kojima. Casualty of him falling out with Konami- they've scrubbed all trace of it. Someone recreated it for PC though so it's still playable. I have it installed right now.

It would be incredibly easy for Nintendo say to track all purchases you've made to your Nintendo account and let you redownload them on future consoles. They don't want to. They'd rather bill you again.

My library is so vast that multiple publishers could remove their entire catalogues and I'd still have too many games. So no, I'm not too bothered about a game becoming unavailable now and again.

If publisher's start removing for download digital titles that you've purchased, that's what piracy is for!

He also noted the inclusion of Undead Nightmare in the Switch and PS4 port, calling the zombie-themed DLC a "great standalone game in its own right when it was originally released, so we feel like it's a great bundle for the first time, and certainly a great value for consumers."

"It's a great bundle for the first time"? I bought that bundle ("GOTY Edition") on disc for my PS3 back in 2011!

A load of films were actually pulled from the PlayStation Store in some regions, even if you had purchased them:

Sony is removing access to hundreds of movies and TV shows on its PlayStation Store service next month (August 2022), meaning users that previously paid for titles such as Paddington and The Hunger Games will no longer be able to watch them. The shutdown affects users in Germany and Austria, according to legal notices posted on the two regional sites, and covers films produced by StudioCanal.

Notices posted to the PlayStation website blame “evolving license agreements with content providers” for the change, and say that purchased content will be removed from customers’ video libraries.

According to Variety, the change affects 314 titles in Germany and 137 in Austria. Affected titles include Chicken Run, John Wick, La La Land, Logan Lucky, Saw, Shaun the Sheep Movie, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. It’s unclear whether refunds will be offered to affected customers.

I don't know if Sony issued refunds (or on request), but you'd imagine so.

I'm certain that there is wording in their licensing agreement that lets them take away your digital stuff with no compensation. Maybe they'll give you a voucher as goodwill if you bought it a day before it was taken down.

Just looked on the eshop again to see if a file size had been put up for the Switch version, they have and its just over 11GB so for £40 there is absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be put on a 16GB cartridge for the Switch, if it is on the cart I'd probably be tempted at some point in the future, if not I'll just pick the digital Xbox version up with the DLC.

No mention of a download on the box art, I wonder if Nintendo themselves are handling the publishing on this?

If it is indeed on the cart, that makes it a lot more tempting at some point in the future.

ShopTo also have it for slightly more at £34.15 (if you're a gold member), I'm still very much going to wait and see how it performs once it releases digitally and secondly if it is indeed all on the cart, its looking good on that front at the moment but I'm in no rush for it.

Now if only Konami would change their stance on the MGS Collection.....
