I've used it for over ten years and just because some banana splits think it's funny to use it doesn't mean that we should lose the word.

And American schools should reclaim the Bellamy salute.

I think there's a massive difference with a salute that was used in a world war by people who were literally killing millions to a bunch of nerds using orcish from WoW.

I know it is used in WoW but that isn't actually the origin of kek, isn't it just the phonetic equivalent of 'lol' in Korean or something?

Well, we best ban Korea for racism.

I am almost 100% sure this was the subject of a Hitler Rant meme back in 2008

Anyone who uses the word kek just comes across as massive, irredeemable nerd. Not the good kind.

I think saying any abbreviated thing like lol is strawberry floating awful, tbh. I just think it's shitty that if you do say it having played WoW for 10 years you are seen as a racist all because of a small group of loud-mouthed banana splits.

It’s all about context though isn’t it? Typing it during a WoW game is one thing, typing it in a thread about homophobia is something else, especially when that person has been told how it comes across.

Tbh, you can't really argue with that angle.

I've never even heard of or seen KEK until this thread either, so I feel I've learnt...absolutely nothing, because I've still only skim read through the last 2 pages. I mentally tuned out the moment I saw "World of Warcraft".

The only one that mildly irritated me is the use of the "Okay" hand gesture, which I never knew has apparently been hijacked by the far right as well. Rarely have I ever found the need to use it in real life, BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. Used to see it on TV all the time when presenters and commentators etc. introduced themselves to the viewer at home.

The only time I've ever used the Okay hand gesture is whilst scuba diving, where it's a pretty vital sign.

I'm sure I've seen 'kek' a few times but I can't remember the context or have any idea what it means.

Yeah, context is important. The OK symbol just mentioned is obviously not racist when used in a scuba dive, but it might have racist connotations when you throw it out there during a group photo at the YouTube "comedians" meet-up, or when you put it in your Twitter handle while you're trolling the SJWs. And you know, there aren't hard and fast rules about this, it's socially constructed and varies symbol to symbol, clearly the OK sign has more legitimate usage scenarios (and was appropriated to a lesser extent to begin with) than pictures of Pepe.

Or the fact it's also British sign language (or, well I guess other sign languages too but don't quote me on that) for "okay". Or "fine", actually.

Edit: well, one of them. I usually do O then flick two of my fingers close to thumb away from it. If that... Makes sense over text...

I mean I don't really use kek. And people who say lol in real life are terrible.

I just don't want banana splits claiming something I have fond memories of.

I've played WoW since soon after it was released in Europe and only used kek a few times. I have no issue with never using it again. BUR.
