Thats why its a gooseberry fool program. People watch it and they hide the interesting science so that it seems impassible or impossible to learn to the layman. Its regressive, offensive and devoid of any talent.

I was gonna just say "Yes" and be done with it but Sir False has summed it up perfectly.

And? I don't get why it has to be this show that 'celebrates' geekdom. Its just a buddy comedy of someone stuck with someone he hates.

It makes science and maths and whatever else seem much more difficult then they are. It hides genuinely very interesting theory and ideas because herp derp muh shelder.

Then it does try and sell itself as a celebration, when its clear to anybody who has even a hint of a clue that its needlessly cruel and snide.

This, essentially. I watched an episode of TBBT which pretty nastily mocked players of Guitar Hero/Rock Band and came across as a pretty snide and cruel caricature. In contrast even South Park managed to parody that particular craze both well and quite affectionately.

False has put it better than I can, but as someone who identifies pretty strongly with nerd/geek culture I find TBBT to fall pretty far short of its claim to be a celebration of it.

I think those into geek culture need to lighten up a bit. They have to be able to see their own fallacies as well as celebrate their great strengths, and Big Bang Theory often does both.

Whether you like the COMEDY, well thats a different matter, but suggesting its some kind of rally against geeks and geekdom is IMO ridiculous.

Did anyone suggest that? Or did we say its a poorly handled unfunny piece of gooseberry fool?

Cora very correctly picked out South Park. Whether you like the humour or not you could be the butt of the joke in that program and not be picked on. They accurately pick out the funny parts and laugh with you, unless of course you happen to be a particularly vapid celebrity.

I don't think it actively rallies against them, I just think that it's a vapid display of "geekery" that comes across as quite a nasty little piss-take. To take South Park as an example again, I don't particularly like South Park as a show but I find that their stance on pisstakes and parody - which is to say that everyone gets their turn - much more palatable than TBBT's.

The characters are, again, utterly vapid, outright annoying and in some cases borderline offensive stereotypes. Perhaps I just don't have the same sense of humour as Chuck Lorre, because I find Two and a Half Men far, far less funny than TBBT.

But to answer the question in the tread title it's nowhere near the worst program on TV, although it is pish. My strategy is to simply not bother watching it.

I've seen worse than TBBT on TV.

It's not perfect, but it isn't the worse.

Or anything involving Jason Byrne.

New Girl has gotten progressively worse since the first season. I really like the Mindy Project though.

In comparison to New Girl, Mindy Project has been continually improving.

The only thing that show did right was getting itself cancelled. Then they went and strawberry floated that up as well.

I saw the latest episode from last week. I didn't crack a smile once. It was ok (ish) once upon a time, but needs to die now.

I don't feel that passionately about it, I do enjoy the program however. However I do feel like its become an easy target when there are many, many, MANY worse comedies at home. I also think a lot of comedies are quite nasty piss-takes, doesn't necessarily mean they aren't funny.

I absolutely hate this show. It was on channel 4 endlessly back when they had the rights to it.

From what I've seen of HIMYM, it is not particularly good either. I didn't find it funny at all.

I would take Big Bang over both of those. Not a brilliant show, but at least it pokes fun at some geek conventions. And it has Bernadette. I just don't listen to her voice

But Friends has Jennifer Anniston. Plus, y'know, good writing and characters.

Friends, modern family and how I met your mother are all good

Big bang theory is awful unfunny gooseberry fool. I have watched it quite a bit because kayley cuoco is fit as strawberry float but dont remember ever laughing at it. Its so popular though I know so many people who think its the best show ever. Those people are strawberry floating morons

It's pretty bad, and from what I have seen it's gotten worse and worse.

But with Mrs Brown's Boys and Miranda on TV, it isn't the worst out there.
