Hi guys,

as those that frequent the Bargains thread will know, I recently purchased this from an Amazon Seller for £13 including postage and packing but am unsure if it's fake or not! The guys in that thread advised me to post here with some pictures to see what you think

I emailed the seller and raised my suspicions but he assured me it was real but that he would refund me if I send it back to him!

It is important to note that it does run on my 3DS

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Looks genuine to me. What makes you think it isn't?

Mainly the Nintendo seal, the slightly blurry quality of the instruction booklet, the overlapped page in the manual and also the Nintendo code on the chip set! There was also no club Nintendo leaflet!

May be over reacting but worried about putting it in my 3DS

The back of the cart doesn't seem right, even if it is a fake it wouldn't kill your DS, you "may" lose the data on the card "if" it's a fake.

I'm no expert but I recently bought a couple of DS games in the US (from legitimate shops) and they look exactly the same to me. I wouldn't worry about it tbh.

Looking at other US versions of this, I can almost 95% confirm it's a fake, get in touch with Amazon, their A-Z policy should have you covered

Is this any help?:

Seems to suggest that the oval seal is genuine, but other things might still be wrong.

That's a fake. The giveaway to me is the back of the cart - Googling 'CP3EN0J09' throws up a number of other games with that reference code, and the Pat Pend thing shouldn't be bevelled, it should be smooth. Also, you'd never find stapling or run-over like that in a genuine game manual.

Aren't clear coloured cases exclusive to European games only?

Newer pirate games have no issues running on a DSi or 3DS.

-----

Edit: Definately a fake. The serial number on the back of the cartridge should begin with "AMCE" (that's the serial for Mario Kart DS).

The back of your cartridge begins with "CP3E"

That's the serial for Viva Pinata Pocket Paradise.

Could be worse. I was selling off some of my old GBA games, and found several that had "Nintondo" printed on the cartridges :fp:

Yeah - you've got a fake

Whilst the oval seal is the one that they use in North America, there are some obvious differences.
Box would be black
Dodgy alignment of cover
Cover colouring too light
There's actually no ESRB rating on the back of a legitimate box
Cart code is probably dodgy (Can't find mine to check)
Poor manual construction/stapling etc.

 Oh dear.

I have a dodgy copy of the first Layton DS game, it's far less convincing than the Mario Kart in this thread. It's actually quite funny, whoever did it made a manual from for the game, but all they did was copy and paste a bad internet review of the game along with some really dark screenshots. Amusingly it includes criticisms, mostly of the "annoying, repetitive music" and Luke's voice actor. Just the thought of an instruction book that slates the game it comes with makes me laugh.

The dark patch on the cart's PCB looks like someone's been busy with a soldering iron.

I assumed that was a camera lens reflection, but, yes, that's no good either.

Looking at manuals is an easy give away - if there are pages missing, overlap or look "wrong", chances are they are a fake.

Yes?

Mine looks like that too! Also, heres a funny thing: When you take out the cartridge, instead of the game crashing, it stays on. One other way to check the cartridge if is there an arrow on the back of the metal thing.

Hey Koopaking, welcome to the forum. This is a very old thread I'm afraid, did you find it on Google or something? Anyway, we have a lot of Nintendo enthusiasts here, so I hope you stick around! Feel free to say hi in -->the newbies thread<-- too! :)
