Post[DISCUSSION] The Israel/Palestine Situation
by Moggy » Sat Jul 19, 2014 5:50 pm

The conflict between Israel and Palestine has been raging for decades now, with blame and fingers pointed at both sides. Recently Hamas started a rocket attack on Israel, which has led to an overwhelming response by the Israeli military.

It might be impossible to decide who is right or wrong or even if there are "good guys" in this conflict, but this is the thread to discuss what the good people of GRcade think of the issue.

Both sides seem as bad as each other, which is pretty much what you'd expect decades of on-and-off war to produce.

Personally, I don't think either side's leadership really wants a two state solution, and as such cannot be trusted to resolve the situation on their own. I don't think that western leaders convening peace summits really helps the region out much either.

This problem was generated by foreign powers, and I think the only way to solve the problem will be to have the UN, backed by the US and Russia in an historic partnership, suspend both nations' sovereignty, deploy peacekeeping forces and redraw the maps again. This time, however, sovereignty and the acknowledgement of important foreign powers must be earned, for example through co-operation, trade agreements beneficial to both states, joint military operations, and religious assimilation by both states of the others' predominant religious group. We don't want sectarian violence or continuation of hereditary religious feuds, so (re?)education and humanizing is going to be key to fostering friendship and camaraderie between the states.

Idealistic and unattainable, I know, but I'd like to believe we're capable of it.

Hamas and the Israeli government are both war mongering assholes who care little about the people of Palestine who've done nothing wrong. Hamas builds their weapons and hides them in civilian structures such as schools and hospitals and doesn't make any attempt to clear the area of civis when they fire so they're deliberately using their own people as moral human sheilds making collateral damage unavoidable.

Yes, there's barely any civilian casualties on the Israeli side but it doesn't mean that their lives are not at risk when rockets come barraging over the border. There is no right side to this war, both of them need to stop as both sides are in the wrong.

Where did you read that ? Israeli website ?

No one hides weapons in schools and hospitals you moron. Hamas are terrible but those rockets are intercepted and are nothing compared to the drones Israel is targeting at civilians.

Israel targeting kids even while they realised it was kids running away . Israel is a terrorist state

Israel continues its incremental genocide with the blessing of the US.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 02704.html

Meanwhile the three teenagers who made a Palestinian boy drink petrol and set him on fire are let off after having please insanity.

What I find galling is that Obama condemned Russia for arming those who shot down the Malaysian airlines plane. Two sets of three hundred people have been killed in the past ten days. One set armed by the US and one by the Russians and the latter didn't know they were going to kill civilians.

There is hard evidence that Hamas fire from civilian buildings, especially schools.

Hamas know what they're doing. They fire rockets daily from the top of rooves of high density civillian areas so if anyone fires back at them they'll kill a bunch of innocent people in the process. Both sides are as bad as each other and whether or not the rockets are intercepted by Israel's iron dome or not it doesn't give the people of Hamas the right to constantly put the fear of death on innocent people.

I have Russian/Israeli step family and even they agree that both sides are in the wrong.

You say that as if anywhere in Gaza isn't a high density civilian area. Were Hamas on the beach where an Israeli drone strike killed a bunch of kids the other day? No of course not.

You could put all the military might of Hamas in a single location and Israel would still bomb civilians because it demoralises the population and undermines the government.

The whole area should change its name and become more integrated to reduce warfare and save everyone time.

The trouble is at this point, intergration would not solve anything. Decades of war have turned people against each other in that region. Nobody wants anything to do with the Palestinian people anymore as Israel did a good job of basically dehumanising them much like the world did to the Jewish people before and during WW2. There's been plenty of chances at peace and many deaths could've been avoided, but people with evil agendas keep getting in to power on both sides of the border.

The irony is that the state of Israel as it is now only exists due to Jewish terrorism in the British mandate for Palestine. It's why we gave up in Palestine in the first place.

Both sides are banana splits. Hamas are firing rockets at Israel and Israel is responding with disproportionate force and doesn't care about 'collateral damage'. I don't get the point of warning civilians of a bombing, the terrorists can also move out. Even if Hamas are using hospitals and schools as human shields' you don't strawberry floating bomb them. Even with a warning.

Shame we can't just take anyone who wants a fight out to the desert, give them bats and let them fight to the death. Then drop a nuke on the victor.

One side totally obliterating the other is probably the only chance for peace in the area.

Then what happens when the other Arab states respond to Palestine getting pancaked?

The shitstorm moves to a slightly different area?

Who said the obliteration had to stop with Palestine anyway?
