Anyone who has fond memories of this game should read this wonderful article on Eurogamer.

Man, I loved this game back in the day.

I'll never forget the time I scored from the halfway line and the opposition team were given a penalty. The game was bonkers. The commentator would sometimes even shout for a penalty when you were nowhere near the box. They don't make 'em like they used to. :(

For a football fan gotta say I never liked these games. The stick felt too fiddly and the players would always spin on the spot like Resident Evil. Certainly not near the standard off ISS Pro (developed by the PES team) on PlayStation.

WALES look strong in midfield.

WALES thwarted again!

The speech in this game was the best.

ISS 64 is one of few football games I actually enjoyed, alongside ISS 98 & Victory Goal. Brilliance.

As a massive fan of ISS Deluxe on the SNES, I loved ISS 64! I remember waiting months for it to be released, I even booked the day off work and picked the game up from Electronics Boutique the moment the store opened.

It was a brilliant game and in some respects, it played a much better game of football than ISS 98.

What separated this from the PlayStation incarnations of ISS Pro & ISS 98?

I played ISS Pro a few months back, & on the normal difficulty, I couldn't believe how easy it was. Like insanely easy. I'm sure I remember it proving quite a challenge back in the day.

Both completely different series built from scratch. The only thing they shared was kit/name licences and commentary (when ported West)

I will eternally love the commentary on the original ISS. Me and my brother still talk about it.

*Shot from outside of area*
COMMENTATOR: He's blasted it!
*Keeper palms ball away*
COMMENTATOR: A blinding s-
*Ball deflects back to keeper from defender at about half a mile an hour. Keeper collects*
COMMENTATOR: My grandmother could have saved that one.

I found it impossible to score from open play in ISS 2000 using your feet. Goals from headers only.

The RPG mode was insane.

I can never remember what ISS game I had, it was either 64 or 98. Whatever it was, it was amazing though. The RPG mode from 2000 looked great in N64 magazine but I never got round to buying it.

Complete off the wall madness, you had a rival in the squad, naturally, and you could start a relationship with several women, more often than not ending in heartbreak that would just cripple your happiness rating. Not having any way to save the game (it needed a memory pak) each game lasted several hours and cruelly ended with rejection from international selection and the bemusement of what exactly I needed to do to get picked.

The one time I did get close after guiding my team to the Masters Cup Final I broke my leg a week before the end of the season.

Awesome music though.

Fantastic game ISS on the N64.

Loved the RPG mode in ISS 2000.

The number of times I played through that.

Go through training excercises > give the ball to my player as much as possible in every match and run about trying to score > date a waitress > get rejected from the national side > end game

Great stuff

Loved the scenarios but the world league was a right bitch.
