I really liked Brothers and I absolutely loved A Way Out so I have high expectations for this. Trailer is looking good!

Much better reviews than i expected (and i liked "A Way Out" a lot). The only reviews i have read / watched (Giant Bomb, Polygon) have actually been pretty negative. I think thats is mostly because of the oversimplification of the subject matter rather than issues with the gameplay however.

I only have one mate who regularly plays games, and I cant see him wanting to play one half of a feuding couple with me.

Going halves with a friend to play this. We both enjoyed "A way out".

My only concern is the subject matter. It's a bit raw for me.

Huh.

The only reviews that have come across my twitter timeline have been largely negative. One straight up advised against playing if you've experienced a situation similar to the one the game explores as it's so ham-handed in its storytelling.

The Eurogamer review was basically like

"The gameplay is amazing, but I have deep rooted issues about divorce therefore the story is bad"

I too was once accosted by a magical talking book of love and it's quite painful to see that trivialised in a game

Is that somehow less valid an opinion?

No, I just think it's a silly reason to mark down a game.

Sometimes divorcing parents do work things out. I read a news article about some random celebs doing it a few weeks ago for example.

It's just came across as very close minded and biased when I was reading it.

Plus it's a kid friendly game, not strawberry floating Marriage Story

I have never been divorced but I was planning on playing this with my GF, will completing this effectively destroy our relationship?

Yeah reading up on what the overall message is and some of the specific example of story points and exchanges between the characters on this is giving me big yikes energy :dread:

I don't know what the hell they were thinking for some of the bits I've seen  :fp:

The gameplay does look brilliant fun though.

Absolutely loving this game so far, the co-op interactions are so well thought out and interesting. Every so often you'll run into full on mini games where you have to do stuff like compete against each other to shoot targets or have a tank battle, it's really good.

Also it has an amazing Street fighter reference

Really enjoying this, surely one of the best split-screen games I've ever played. We've been playing it for an hour or so a day and still not made it to the end.

I love that there's just a shit-ton gameplay mechanics thrown in and all of them are polished enough to work well, with none outstaying their welcome to the point they become boring. Hopefully we see more games like this in the future.

A couple of hours into this playing online with a friend. Early impressions are very good. It takes what was good about A Way Out and expands upon it with more variety in gameplay mechanics and a great art style. I'm particularly enjoying the mini games that break up the story. Definitely excited to see if they can keep up the variety as the game progresses.

They absolutely do. We're probably a little over halfway and the game continues to surprise and delight in equal measures. I haven't laughed at a game so much in years, it really is a pleasure to play. Definitely my favourite(new) game I've played all year.
