I recorded 4 TikTok videos of me looking at my N64 carts , should be putting them up like Thursday or Friday, not sure if I have any more carts as I couldn't see No Mercy and I'm sure I have a No Mercy cart. Worked out where a crate of GameCube games was as well, going to pull those out Monday and record some more videos.

Nice collection! I'm most jealous of Me & My Katamari, would like to play that along with Chili Con Carnage. I was also unaware of the Harvey Birdman game! Cool that you also have a sealed copy of The 3rd Birthday in its fancy box, and also good to see you have Gurumin - one of my favourite PSP games and largely unknown, it also got ported as a downloadable title to 3DS!

Dowbocop wrote:Apparently the licensed games only started with Olympic Gold. There wasn't a proper one for Rio, so I'm only missing Atlanta and Athens in the mainline series (I've got Tokyo on Steam).

No interest in Mario & Sonic beyond the first game (which earns a place in almost any collection just for being the first game with both Mario and Sonic)? The Rio game is best for the debut of Rugby Sevens which is great fun - and its the best part of Tokyo too. Tokyo is obviously a good fit for Mario and Sonic too!

I think it's about half my collection OR , I look forward to showing more of it at some point.

"There's Always A Lighthouse, Always A Man, Always A City..."

Bioshock released in August 2007 and it was the first game I bought for my Xbox 360 console. The steelbook looked terrific and when I loaded up the game I was astonished by that famous opening sequence. The fire and reflections on the water... now this was new gen!

Subsequently I picked up the next games in the series for my 360 and, later, the Collector's Edition of the first title. I have only dabbled with the first game (too spooky :slol: ... although the atmosphere and detailing were terrific ) and have yet to try the second; but Infinite I have played a fair amount of and hugely enjoyed it. The city in the sky was so well done and lavishly presented.

In recent years I have also acquired the second and third games on PS3, the trilogy on PS4 (digital) and Switch. They make for a neat collection, albeit the Infinite cover is so - IMHO! - weak and generic compared to the first two titles.

Let's take a look!

^ My collection.

Image

^ The Bioshock Collector's Edition contains a (wonderful) model of Big Daddy, a making of DVD and a soundtrack CD alongside a steelbook edition of the game.

Image

^ The Big Daddy is a marvellous model; it's made of metal, highly-detailed and quite weighty, too.

Image

^ A look at the other titles. The Bioshock 2 cover has a nice "glow" effect, Infinite has that infamous "big man with big gun!" image (but a stylish black n' red image on the reverse) whilst the Switch collection features that cool lighthouse artwork. I've only played the opening of the first game on Switch so far but it was a treat to see such a game running on the portable system.

There we go! I'd love to see Bioshock 4 details announced soon; it feels like time to get back into that world. I hope you enjoyed the tour and let's look forward to more Weekender submissions!

I've played the first few hours of Bioshock on PS3 (my copy is preowned with a cardboard sleeve) and that's it for the series. The setting is brilliant and gets introduced really well (even if I apparently guessed a twist immediately) and I would happily go through the game as a walking-sim style exploration game. Unfortunately I really wasn't feeling the combat, which is perhaps because I hadn't got far enough and enough upgrades for it to click, but it all felt a bit overbearing and padded.

Sounds like you don't need Bioshock 4 anyway Jawa if you still have the first and second game to play!

Jawa, that's a great collection!

The first bioshock holds great memories for me. I'd read a bit about it in pc gamer, enough to know it was great but not enough to know too much about the setting or vibe of the game. Then my long term relationship ended out of nowhere, I was forced to move back in to my old bedroom at my parents at very short notice. Was generally feeling very miserable, and went to the local Safeway and saw the pc version on the shelf. Bought it, went back and set my monitor up on the small chest of drawers beside the bed (no desk or anything). Mouse and keyboard on my lap, crt monitor about a foot away, crappy free headphones on.

And oh my god, what a game. Played it solidly for about a week, and it really helped take my mind off stuff.

I really remember jumping badly at several points, probably Houdini sploicers or something.

That's a great collection you have there Jawa! I've never been one for Bioshock but I understand it's a highly regarded series of games! :simper:

That collectors edition is another great example of how it's done! I'd love to see a "making of" in these types of things! Also that figure looks awesome and great that it's weighty, looks well painted and highly detailed!

I totally agree with you on how the Infinite cover looks, I don't know what it is unless I read the title. Unlike previous games which I can identify instantly, and this is coming from someone with no experience of the games!

Thanks for your submission Jawa, another lovely presentation once again!

Definitely, Orange, that opening is really good. The crash, the tower, arriving in Rapture... so atmospheric!

Thanks, Ad, and it's cool to hear that story of how the game helped you through a tough time. t's just a nice thing when a game is enjoyable enough to do that.

Doom, ta, I appreciate it, man. Yeah, the figure is maybe surprisingly good; certainly one of the better quality figures you see in collector's editions. The standard edition steelbook is lovely, too - simple but effective.

Here's an interesting charity shop curio - a PS3 promo disc for Obsidian's secret agent RPG Alpha Protocol, compared against the standard PS3 retail release!

From the front

I've only played a few hours of Alpha Protocol and can't compare any differences if they exist between the two version, but it's a very interesting game with some unfortunate balancing issues!

In typical Obsidian fashion the role playing elements, player freedom and writing are all excellent. A large part of the game is in its dialogue system, letting the player assess the most persuasive approach to convincing adversaries into seeing things from the player's point of view. Alternatively you can choose to immediately punch everyone you ever talk to - it is hilariously brilliant.

The RPGified stealth-shooter gameplay is also very interesting but unfortunately where the game's lack of balance comes to the forefront. For all the variety in weapons, perks and abilities the game offers, just using a pistol ends up breaking the game entirely as you can pick off enemies with pinpoint accuracy in casual slow motion. The stealth too is easily nullified with a perk that literally turns you invisible if you're about to get spotted. In combination the action focused gameplay quickly feels farcical, which is greatly disappointing when the premise of a Jason Bourne RPG is such a strong one, especially coupled with Obsidian's renowned roleplaying design.

The promo disc is one of my favourite items in my collection just for being a bit different and because it's a game that I already find interesting! It's fun to note the different age ratings for example. This is pretty much the only promo disc I've ever found when browsing a shop so I was pretty excited when I happened across it a few years ago!

When I was at primary school I had a friend who actually had an aunt who worked for Sony (believe it or not!) and he would get plenty of PS2 promo discs because of it. The first time I played Jak and Daxter was actually a promo disc copy that I borrowed - now as a huge Jak and Daxter fan I wish I had been able to keep it! Because of that it's probably now my holy grail of promo discs and one I'd love to own for myself, but for the current moment Alpha Protocol will have to keep me satisfied.

That's a lovely overview, Orange - so neat to have both the standard and promo versions. Good spot on the rating change! It's a game that I've wanted to try and your analysis has made me want to seek out a copy.

Edit: CGR Undertow's look at the game seems to mirror some of your thoughts:

Edit 2: Just bought a cheap copy off eBay; I think this is the first retro game I've bought in about eight years! Thanks for highlighting the game, Orange :toot: .

Making me want to actually play it through now Jawa! It's one of those games whose reputation seems to have grown over time and is remembered more fondly than it initially reviewed, maybe not quite to cult classic status but the Obsidian name certainly helps with the appeal.

Hope you like it anyway! You seem to have a high tolerance for jank and I don't imagine you'll mind the gameplay tending to being easy once you start upgrading things, so there's a good chance you'll get on with it quite well I think.

I bloody love Alpha Protocol its an awesome game, that promo is a very cool thing to have. I have 2 PS2 games like that ones Brian Lara Cricket I think (I know its a cricket game) and the other is a Tomb Raider, Legends I think not the most impressive but I do think it is cool to have this promo type games.

That's neat kerr, would be cool to see them! Can't say I'm a cricket fan but maybe that ends up being the "rarest" by virtue of being less popular, can't imagine it got that much promotion in the US or the rest of Europe for example

If I remember right PS2 promo discs are usually just plain silver with the name printed on them?

Brian Lara was a great series back in the day! I really enjoyed the Mega Drive edition I had, and the one from the PS1. I think they made about 6 games in the series in total so it was pretty popular!

I think cricket is technically the second most popular sport in the world behind football so it's not surprising that the series did pretty well, but that said I don't imagine videogame sales are massive in places like India and Pakistan
