"There's Always A Lighthouse, Always A Man, Always A City..."Bioshock released in August 2007 and it was the first game I bought for my Xbox 360 console. The steelbook looked terrific and when I loaded up the game I was astonished by that famous opening sequence. The fire and reflections on the water... now
this was new gen!
Subsequently I picked up the next games in the series for my 360 and, later, the Collector's Edition of the first title. I have only dabbled with the first game (too spooky
... although the atmosphere and detailing were terrific ) and have yet to try the second; but Infinite I have played a fair amount of and hugely enjoyed it. The city in the sky was so well done and lavishly presented.
In recent years I have also acquired the second and third games on PS3, the trilogy on PS4 (digital) and Switch. They make for a neat collection, albeit the Infinite cover is so - IMHO! - weak and generic compared to the first two titles.
Let's take a look!
^ My collection.
^ The Bioshock Collector's Edition contains a (wonderful) model of Big Daddy, a making of DVD and a soundtrack CD alongside a steelbook edition of the game.
^ The Big Daddy is a marvellous model; it's made of metal, highly-detailed and quite weighty, too.
^ A look at the other titles. The Bioshock 2 cover has a nice "glow" effect, Infinite has that infamous "big man with big gun!" image (but a stylish black n' red image on the reverse) whilst the Switch collection features that cool lighthouse artwork. I've only played the opening of the first game on Switch so far but it was a treat to see such a game running on the portable system.

There we go! I'd love to see Bioshock 4 details announced soon; it feels like time to get back into that world. I hope you enjoyed the tour and let's look forward to more Weekender submissions!
