About Fortnite and you

Fortnite is, of course, one of the popular videogames in the world. For the past six years it has had millions of people playing it and brought huge wealth to Epic Games.

But here in GR it seems that very few folk play the game nor talk about it... although I'm wondering if that will soon change. Back in March I posted about the game transitioning to became a platform and that approach has now accelerated with the announcement of separate Lego and Rocket Racing games within the Fortnite environment.

So, please select the voting options that reflect your thinking about Fortnite and then add words to describe any experiences you've had with Fortnite and your thoughts about its future.

My experience of Fortnite is limited to a single go of the Battle Royale mode on the Switch version. I had no idea what was going on; I started shooting but the players near me were seemingly on my side? So, yeah... ten minutes and that was that!

My two older nephews were hugely into the game for a few years and one of them still returns now and again.

Fortnite does now appear to be evolving into a Roblox-style centre for multiple games and I do find that interesting. I am tempted to try the Fortnite Battle Royale mode just to give it another go; but I do wonder if things have progressed so much that there might be too much to take in? The Creative (building) mode sounds intriguing, too. And the new Lego and Rocket Racing games sound like (completely separate) fun.

So, yes, I might download it and take a look.

I cannot put into words the rush I feel when I see a new Jawa asks thread goes up. My pupils dilate at the sight of it. I click through and my pulse is racing. I haven't even finished reading the thread title yet. I don't read the OP, or even the poll question, before I'm immediately drawn to the list of options below. I can feel the blood coursing through my veins as I see them, the dashes. Sitting there in majestic lines, their form seeming to reflect my frantically beating heart, like some sort of morse code for my very being. I select the first one. There are more. How many more I can't be sure, I haven't even had the time to scroll down the page yet. My fingers tremble above the screen as I drag the page downwards. More of them, waiting for me, lying stretched out before me in their perfect form like an expectant lover. I caress each one in turn with a check in their respective box. I scroll down to find one last line of dashes. There are never enough, but I know the mark of a good poll is to always leave you wanting more. My anticipation for the next thread is already building as I strike the submit button. Who knows when it will come, unexpected and unannounced, to relieve this tension that already swells within.

Until next time, Jawa. Until next time.

...wow :o ... . Incredible stuff, Knoyleo, and I had no idea that some GRcadians got such a hit from my questions! I shall try to keep making content that satisfies in this way :toot: .

Knoyleo.

I've played Fortnite a couple of times. I don't mind battle royale games, but were I going to play one, the mechanics of Apex appeal more to me personally.

If a really good game came out "in Fortnite" then I wouldn't be averse to trying it. But I think their core audience is teenagers, so I can't imagine them releasing anything that really speaks to me.

It seems like there are three juggernaut games right now that are really popular with the kids -- Fortnite, Roblox, and Minecraft. Of the three, I have an actively very negative view towards Roblox, which has been described by investigative journalists as "a cesspool of child abuse".

If I had to choose one to play, I think Minecraft is the one that I could have a bit of fun with.

Those results look pretty much what I expected with hardly anyone here playing. While I was big into it back around 2018, I did drop off, only to return for some brief play time (usually owing to the Star Wars content additions). This return to the OG island has brought me back, and the idea of LEGO Fortnite and a racing game could keep me around a bit longer. As well as seeing what this new island that starts Chapter 5 off is like. At some point I'll drop off again, but there'll likely be something drawing me back.

But what about Fortnite?

I've never played it myself, feel like I should continue this streak.

I've played a little bit of Fortnite with the kids, who are hopelessly addicted to the damn thing. It's a fun but fairly basic game, I don't really understand why it has had the success it has. I guess it's difficult to shift when the playerbase is so established.

I’ve played it quite a lot as my two sons play it. It’s not my thing at all, but I enjoy my time playing it.

Very basic game, but my sons are surprised by how good I am at it though.

I'm kinda the same, Vermi, although it seems that the Battle Royale has changed quite a bit and then there are the Lego and Rocket Racing games arriving soon!

Oof! I hadn't heard that about Roblox... and it's pretty alarming as Roblox is one of the most popular games around for kids?

I do want to try Minecraft, too. I'm not interested in the "fighting" aspect but the creation side looks great - and I believe there is a "creative" mode.

Yeah, it seems that very few GRCadians play; I believe that Yube is a fan, though, and that Pedz used to play, too. It's cool that you're having fun with it, Rula, and maybe those upcoming games will really draw in the crowds, too.

So.. you're saying there's a chance, shy guy? .

I can see why the styling may not appeal to everyone, aayl. The battle royale gameplay looks to be pretty fast n' furious!

I’ve played a fair amount of it but stopped before the crossovers really began (I think John Wick was the only real one at the time).

It’s my least favourite of all the BRs I’ve played. The feel of everything is immensely unsatisfying to me and the building is just ruinous to the gameplay. Someone turning into a 3 storey building as soon as you shoot them is just shite. I was coaxed back to it a few times since by the guys on my main Discord, as a no build mode is now in it, but the problem is that if you don’t play it regularly like they did in the interim, it’s just a lot of incomprehensible noise. Hadn’t a strawberry floating clue what anything was or what half the mechanics were because they’re always changing.

If you’re playing it on the reg, I’m sure it seems good. Always changing so you haven’t really got a chance to get bored. Always something new to check out that changes the meta in an unexpected way. But it’s all relative. From the outside looking in it’s easier to see that it’s actually just low grade muck for the ADHD generation.

Yeah, when I played the game - once! - it didn't seem clear as to what was meant to be happening. I guess that people playing regularly understand it and really get into it, though.

Think I’ve played one match and then deleted it, didn’t see what the fuss was about really.

I don't really have much interest in it. There was a short period where I saw stuff like wall running and rail grinding and that made it look fun, but my friend who played said it was only a temporary addition, so my interest immediately died. I'm glad there's a mode that doesn't involve the building part that I could look at if the curiosity does win out, but I don't know what would do that at this point if Snake isn't doing anything.

The appeal of Fortnite is primarily that it is a free multiplayer game, who nearly anyone can play. If a friend has a Switch/ Playstation/ Xbox/ pc/ tablet you can play together.

As far as the game goes, it's alright. What puts me off is that any friends who want to play it have put thousands of hours in, and in the time it takes me to find a gun and some ammo, they've downed 3 teams, travelled half the map and now need me to rush into a hot zone to revive them.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

I play it with my kids. It's enjoyable enough.

Also, where's the option for "I don't care either way about Fortnite becoming a platform"?
