Sure, I agree that things don't move as fast as in the past, but I look at your phrase "It seems like the length of time between new posts in topics I'm interested in just gets longer and longer" and I wonder if this presents an opportunity to create threads on the things that do appeal to you?

It's not so much that the threads aren't there for the stuff I like, and I have been trying recently to write some content-rich posts to spur discussion a little. But, to me personally, it doesn't feel like I'm getting as much out of this place as I'm putting in.

But that's not on the community, that's on me. Even short posts feel like they take a ton of effort, getting drafted and redrafted a million times before hitting submit. This one alone has taken almost 60 minutes. Was that time well invested? Not at all.

For what it's worth, jiggles, I read your posts in the "Currently Playing" thread and think they're really good. I no longer buy games mags or read games sites so it's pretty much one of my only sources of what's out and what I should be playing were I playing anything. The only reason I don't comment is to not upset the other wankers with their thirty-word "reviews". Twats, the lot of them. :smallwink:

The thought of somebody using my shite as some sort of worth playing guide is absolutely horrifying.

Yeah it's grand. Bit quiet but whatever. I still don't really go anywhere else on the internet so that's a good sign, probably.

I come here for the stuff, as there are few new games threads that seem to last more than a page before fizzling out. I then go to neogaf flood the proper gaming info.

I just go to reddit, never Neogaf anymore (because the founder is a prick).
Although currently the entire internet is talking about Pokemon, and I am sick to death of it. So I come here, where there is less people.

Jawa, you just can't change this place. I tried a while back but to no avail.

This is Winckle's implementation at the moment but doing this gives us a chance to see what happens, I'm sure you can handle some pragmatism. Easy to stop them autoplaying.

Okay lets get this list started.

* Gold name for me.
* Re-name website to "Kezzer's Grcade" every Wednesday. (if not every Wednesday then every second Saturday)
* weebums that autoplay
* Any time I log in there is a notification sound. (sort of like a theme tune - forumites can decide every Friday what the tune will be for the following week.)
* Make the quote text black and bold and only go red when highlighted.
* When you click on a "Special" Grcade logo it tells you about it ( like a Google doodle )
* weebums that I can see on my phone (Android 4.4.2 w/h chrome browser)
* a :simper: with out the brows
* a :wub: but the other way round
* Ban Staydead - hour/day/week/month/year [forum discretion]
[failing this have a BAN button at the top right of the site. After a number of clicks a random forumite is ban'd for 24hrs - forumite avatar must be inside red BAN button]
* After aprox 1 year. Make a special "Bring Back The GIF with Justin Lee Collins" thread. With guest forumite Justin lee Collins. [make this happen regardless]
* Appoint 1cManny1 head of international forum relations.
* Make Lagamorph's avatar the last terrible picture he posts ( all be it smaller)
* Have a KKLEIN news buillitin ticker tape across the forum
* Have a ticker tape across forum
* When server is down for maintenance have image of construction workers and flashing orange lights.
* Meld every thread in the games section into one super thread
* Swap two forumites identities with each other at random every month
* Sort out the archive search
* Get answers in the ask section - this never happens to me!
* Introduce the hell ban
* Instate a no chocolate in fridge policy. All non compliants will be rounded up into their own sub forum
* Remove hell ban due to improper use.
* promote 1cManny1 to over seas director.
* Have a count down to the server's END DATE [ have a button that resets the timer - then it is up to the forum to decide its own fate ]

This will be a marvellous new start to Grcade.

Love

I am the problem with GRcade! Me!

You see, I enjoy browsing this place every day and yet my average posts per day is 2.87 (which is massively skewed by all the AYA? games). I'm a leech! I love what I read and yet I don't contribute.

There must be tons of daily / regular browsers who are like me. I'd say there are a few who have already posted in this thread. If we would only pull our finger out, this place would suddenly seem a lot busier.

Yep, I'm also in this boat too. I put it down to the fact that I have enough time to browse GRcade but not to actually post regularly. Maybe if I was sat in front of a computer for most of my working day I would, but as I'm not I find it difficult to squeeze it all into my normal day.

It probably doesn't help that I've just bought a house and am getting married in less than 2 months. :lol:

Pretty much the same with me. This place is dying a little isn't it? Thats a shame, but it was always going to lose popularity as people got older.

I'm not sure what I can really say. I still get on with everyone here despite all the name calling at points in time and feeling like I wasn't wanted here. I don't post as much as I used to, but I don't think anyone does. My biggest problem is Gaming isn't too active, but the threads that are I enjoy, but can't post too much or I feel like I'd be dominating discussion and in Stuff a lot of the time it feels like an echo chamber. The same 4-5 people having the exact same pety arguments all the time.

I understand that certain memmbers don't like another members political opinions and I completely understand that they want to make them change their attitude, but no amount of name calling, pety insults and repeating yourself is going to make them change. People calling for bans over it are very annoying. If you don't like someones opinion, just ignore it. They're not hurting you by posting it and honestly outside of politics threads I've always seen that person as quite a down to earth and nice guy with a lot of weird life experiences that are interesting to hear about.

My other major issue I have is I have a very "niche" in terms of this forum selection of games I play and hobbies I like. This means a bigger forum with llarge communities dedicated to the things I like are easy to discuss what I like in. This doesn't mean I don't enjoy discussing things with people on here though. I've been a member of GR now for about 10 years so I doubt I'll ever go anywhere as the one time I did try to leave when I got really annoyed with someone I came back after a month or so. I love most of the people here, I've made some good friends through here and it is a true shame a lot of people I used to get on with no longer post. Some of them don't even come on Mumble anymore either due to people arguing with them all the time. It's sad.

From my perspective, from what it's worth, you've always been 'wanted' here. If anyone's ever seriously suggested the board would be better off without you, they're a total idiot. We've all had silly moments (larger ;) ) and have been part of wider in-jokes but that's what makes this place a community from my perspective. I know I've teased you sometimes but I hope you never took it to heart. :wub:

Qikz wrote:My other major issue I have is I have a very "niche" in terms of this forum selection of games I play and hobbies I like.

I can't be the only other person on here who watches slice-of-life and owns anime figures? I agree we are in a slim minority but maybe we can eke a thread out of it separate to the anime thread, which seems very centred on stuff like JoJo? Rightey would post, I bet.

I feel this way too. For instance, I don't know if maybe he found me a bit annoying, but I really really liked reading Dala's comments and it's such a shame he won't post any more. :(

Dala, much like Silva and Kil don't post here anymore and don't enjoy coming on Mumble anymore due to the fact some people are overly negative about everything. I understand where they're coming from as sometimes it genuinly feels like you're in the wrong for actually trying to find enjoyment in something. It's why I've loved more recently with people like Pedz, Devlin and Dragon coming on more often as the atmosphere is completely different with certain people.

I'd argue that the vast majority of forums have a lot in the way of squabbling/obscure memes that wouldn't make sense to newcomers but honestly SONM is a shell of what it once was. I feel like i'm probably in a similar boat to Jiggles in that it's only really the nostalgia of how things were back on ONM before we switched sites that keeps me posting. Especially seeing as I keep in touch with most of the decent members via the various off site chats that have sprung up over the years.

The main reason I don't come on Mumble much any more is that I'm super busy, and it's easier to post here during work than it is to voice-chat; but a small reason is that I felt a bit like some of the other regulars - who hang out there a lot but don't post on the board much - maybe thought I was a bit of a dork and didn't really want me around? Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick.
