It’s remarkable just how well my post from two years ago stands up.

You don’t count Karl in those rules though do you? Really? For FFS Jawa. :x

I know people get wound up on issues that are discussed on the boards, but I think we are remarkably civil and calm with each other, especially baring in mind the absolute political chaos we are currently living through. The country really is split down the middle at the moment, we should probably be far more at each others throats than we actually are.

I am happy with GRcade, but I don’t let things that happen on the board stress me out in real life. Except for Glowy’s vile comments in the football league thread (Glowy :x ).

The one thing I would change is (as ever!) the lack of new members. The forum is a lot lot quieter than it used to be and I fear that it will only get more so as the current members drift away or start dying off.

Glowy is still annoying, the board is mostly civil and the country is still in political chaos.

I’m sad that my last line was true though.

I hope that the SONM merge has helped bring some new life, and the very recent GNamer affiliation is hopefully just the first of some new affiliates to get some new faces looking in.

Compared to SONM in it's final days, GRCade is a shining beacon of activity, it's been years since i was on a forum as busy as this one.

I like it here more than i did SONM (sorry SONM guys) mainly due to the activity, the overall friendliness and "banter" everyone has, rather than a group of people taking over and derailing everything anyone posts.

I never checked out SONM (sorry!) so can't compare it but glad to know that others agree this is a friendly place.

Personally I like the level of activity that we have here, it's not so quiet that there's no discussion or feeling of community but also it's not so busy that you feel like your just one voice shouting into a hurricane of others. The few times I strolled into GAF back in the day I just found topics moved way too quickly to keep up with and so there was never any desire to try and contribute.

Do the mods or anyone have visibility of stats relating to the general level of activity on the forum? It would be interesting (maybe just to me! :D ) to understand how the activity has fluctuated over time.

I genuinely don't like some of you plebs but still would rather be here than anywhere else.

Still have no idea why Forza Horizon 2 and 3's grcade clubs are vastly more populated than this forum.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you on this. Here's week-by-week posting going back to 2014.

Image

I felt to me like the forum had slowed down over the last couple of weeks, but it must be in my head, because we're actually doing pretty well as compared to earlier in the year, and this time last year.

(I've highlighted the start of the year, which also always corresponds to the end of our annual December lull. Funny how the boom and lull pattern repeats every year like clockwork.)

Reason: added YY-MM-DD label to make it less ridiculously confusing to read

All those dates seem to be for 2014 Karl.

 Yeah, I see what you mean, but it's not that -- you have to read them "YY-MM-DD". It's just it's chosen to centre each month on the 14th. Blame Excel, not me...

Don't worry, it was super confusing. I added a label anyway, thanks for pointing it out.

Anyway! Although we started from an all-time low ( :( ) I think it's encouraging that this year is the first on that graph where it looks like the trend is going upwards overall. I doubt we will return to the 5,000 posts per week glory days of 2014 (let alone 10k posts per week like it was back in 2009!) but hopefully we've set back the decline for a while. The fact that the trend stabilised at all is down to the remaining long-standing members being very dedicated, but the growth above that baseline is surely due to SONM (and now GNamer). Pretty interesting!

It would be good if we could annex create partnerships with a few more forums in the future, I think. Encourages a bit of dynamic growth.

Cool - thanks for this Karl. :)

Whilst the last couple of years do look to be a bit down on average this year seems to be trending upward to a degree which is nice.

The spike in June is presumably E3, and I'm assuming the spike was larger in 2016 because the EU referendum happened around the same time?

There also seems to be a semi-regular spike shortly after the start of the year, I can't really work out what the source of that might be - my new years resolution is to post on GRcade more?

I'd feel a lot more positive about GRcade if half the posts weren't just people telling other users how to post / moderate properly. It's really tiresome.

Oh and this thread should be in the Feedback section.
