I only have a ps4 and can't help but feel it'd be an inferior version of the game.

Otherwise I definitely would get it at release. Would be cool to experience!

If you wanted to, aayl1, you could get the game on PS4 now and enjoy it... and get the free upgrade to the PS5 version if you get that console in the future?

Here's a video that might help. He says it seems like a good port overall.

Need to decide whether to get the PC or PS5 version. My wife will probably want to play it too so feels unfair on her if I get it for my PC.

Where is the poll option for "my partner has the special edition preordered and I will watch her play it"?

Yeah, it sounds like the PS5 version could be a decent choice there, Zilnad.

It's cool that Ms Orange will be trying out the game, dude. Hopefully you'll get to have a go, too?

These are interesting points to consider! Seems like the PS4 will be a decent version of the game anyway (thanks for that video) and I didn't realise they'd be a free upgrade to PS5 with it.

I might think about getting it for launch. Experiencing souls in a launch window has got to be a unique experience I'd like to try!

I'll play it at some point, but I can't say I'm particularly excited for it. I'm kind of burnt out on souls games as I find them so stressful. Saying that, I played demons souls remake recently and loved it, so maybe it's just because I've not paid any attention to elden ring that I'm not bothered about it.

Once it launches and everyone is raving about it, watch me buy it.

I pre-ordered this on a whim over Christmas, because of Hot UK Deals and the price being about £30 on the Turkish PSN store (which leaves me hoping that this method doesn't get blocked off before the DLC comes out).

Don't often buy PS/Xbox stuff at launch so that's a bit of a departure from me. I also didn't expect to get round to Elden Ring this year, as I was probably going to get Sekiro instead (started the Soulsborne/Nioh series in 2015 and been doing one a year since then, and had almost caught up).

As a result, I accidentally avoided a lot of the game due to presuming it was going to be a while until I played it. I've never gone in this blind and on Day 1 as well. So I'm probably going to avoid stuff going forward and try and have it fresh. I'm hoping that this, coupled with it being a bit different from the norm (I do know it's open world) might led to some of that newness I felt back with Bloodborne in 2015.

I do love these games, but they do now follow a fairly common formula (that they themselves largely founded). Would be nice if it mixed things up and pulled the rug from under experienced players' feet a bit. I've definitely gotten in to more of a comfort zone as I've gone through the titles.

Yeah, that's my thinking too, aayl. Souls at launch!

Victor Mildew wrote:...I'm kind of burnt out on souls games as I find them so stressful...

I did find Souls stressful at first but then I accepted that death is part of the game and that the re-play aspect is what it's all about. I rolled with it!

Here we go! Ad, you could be there at Day One + one or two :toot: .

Nice one Parksey - it'll be fun to go on without much idea about the game :-).

Still have loads of annual leave to book before July so I booked the 25th off to play this. I'm leaning towards getting the PC version now.

I feel like I say this any time a topic about a From Software game comes up, but I've never played one. I get annoyed with myself, because every now and then I'll look over metacritic lists, just to see the highest few games I've never played, and these are always there at the top of the list. I'm not good at hard games. I get easily frustrated by games where losing progress is common, and the thought of spending an entire evening on a game and not getting anywhere with it, when there are so many other games to play puts me off a bit. I think another big thing going against it is I've always felt the whole demon aesthetic pretty boring in general. Sekiro looked more my thing, but I think that was meant to be the hardest of all? Elden Ring does look a bit more appealing I admit, and I know when I see that 90+ meta score I'm going to feel like I NEED to play it.

They are - IMHO - tough games, Grin, and they do require plenty of attempts and patience. I find them so rewarding, though, as I've rarely felt the elation that comes from getting through a section or duffing up a - initially seemingly impossible - boss. And I'm lousy at most games!

I'd suggest not spending out fifty quid on Elden Ring but instead look out for Dark Souls Remastered. You can often pick it up for around eight pounds in the storefront sales and it'd be a great way to dip your toes into the water.

I'm really excited about it, but I'm really torn between getting this or Horizon Forbidden West next. Both will probably take a lot of my time and I want to give them the attention they deserve, but it's really hard to pick between them!

I'm currently leading toward this as, like a few others, I've also never played a Souls game at launch and being part of that experience might be cool

I’m so out of the loop I thought this was a Lord of the Rings spin off until recently.

Had no idea what it was till I saw the options.

I’ll pass considering I’ve managed a grand total of about 2hrs across Dark Souls, Bloodborne and the like :slol:
