How excited are you about Elden Ring?

New Souls! New adventure! Yes, on 25 February we will have the opportunity of stepping into a new world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware.

Are you starting to feel pretty excited about this? Are you planning to play on day one?

I wouldn’t say I was excited but I will pick a copy up. Ive not preordered as Horizon is out before and I’ll only pick up one at a time and as Horizon is a PS exclusive its less likely to drop in price overtime whereas Elden Ring might.

I have this new appreciation of NG+ after getting the platinum in Demon’s Souls so might be trying for the same in Elden Ring.

Never played a Soulsbourne game, I do like the look of Elden Ring but I know if will be no good for me as i'll get frustrated :lol:

I hope that others will struggle in Elden Ring so that I can say how easy it is and how they need to git gud

I've got a pre-order in for the disc version on PS5 and I'm pretty excited about it. I am wondering about whether I should tackle / re-visit some of the earlier Soulsborne games before trying Elden, though.

I have played Dark Souls (up to Smaugh & Ornstein) and Bloodborne (up to Cleric Beast) and thoroughly enjoyed them; more so because it was so fun having a few GRcadians joining the stream for my Souls journey and thus having folk like Matt reminding me to "!HEAL" :lol:

Having only discovered the series these past few years, Elden Ring will be the first Soulsborne game that I've ever bought at launch and it'll be exciting to experience that launch buzz and hear how others are getting on with the game.

Ah! I'd imagine that Horizon will keep you busy for quite some time, Rubix. Maybe you'll fancy Elden a few months down the line.

They can be tough and sometimes a wee bit janky, Milner, but I would suggest maybe getting Dark Souls Remastered in a sale and seeing how you get on with it?

I really enjoyed the early parts of Bloodborne, but I got so lost after defeating Rom I stopped playing and vowed to never play another Fromsoft game.

I'll be slightly excited once all the DLC is out and the full thing is about a fiver and a guide has been made on how to access it all.

Not a bad approach, Matt! That's pretty much what I did with the earlier titles. It'll be good to see you try out Elden!

Not I twrested, not a big fan of the Souls games and a big open world Souls game Sounds worse.

I wonder, though, Pedz... I recall that you were not keen at all on the idea of the Souls games but when you gave them a go you seemed to enjoy playing them? And you did well :-).

Definitely want to play it, but I've still got Bloodborne unstarted, so I won't be buying Elden Ring at launch. Might as well wait until it goes cheap.

Its been far too long a tthis point (about 3 years.... whenever it came to PS+). I would have to "Git average" all over again.

Excellent stuff; I only played the opening couple of hours but it's great - especially the look n' feel of the characters and environments.

I don't mind starting games again after a break as it's good to re-learn the controls and get into the timing of the game. Hopefully you'll be tempted at some point, dude.

I think the thing I appreciate most about the Souls games is that they took some very daring design choices that have become so iconic that they are not only the studio’s signature, but have filtered out and influenced the industry as a whole.

I have actually avoided almost all coverage entirely of Elden Ring. All I know is that it’s an open world one-a-those, there’s something crazy about the horse, there’s a big talking pot guy and GRRM is collaborating on some of the lore. I’ve read some brief knee jerk reactions in threads when a trailer gets posted (surface level stuff like “looks amazing”) and that’s it.

If it’s just Dark Souls III in an open world, that’s enough for me. It doesn’t have me particularly excited, but I’ll play it and love it. The thing that has me *excited* about it is the potential for From Software to take some new daring design choices at odds with the framework we’re so used to, both in existing open world games and their previous titles. I mean, I think in the absolute worst case scenario, we get a fantastic grimdark open world RPG from the strawberry floating masters of the art. How can you not smile at that. We’re in for an absolute treat.

Ah, actually, this conversation made me look it up - the PC Collector's Edition has a Steam key, so I might not need to double dip after all!

If my box arrives before release I'll cancel the digital pre-order. If not, I'll keep it so I can play it straight away - no way will I be able to wait for the post to come knowing it's out! :lol:

Souls II is in a league of its own though naturally

One of the things I remember from my original streams of Dark Souls I was when you used to dial in at around 4pm whilst walking home from work via a beach. Amazing scenes! It felt like I was getting hints from a genuine Souls character, mysteriously living out on a beach somewhere, the sand and mist combining with a faint sound of waves in the background
