I did a Star Trek game that used up every single byte of the wobbly ram-pack and, I swear to god, an early type of Zelda game, On one cassette there was a 16k map you've moved about to find castles and towers and underground dungeons and then each castle/dungeon had/was going to have its own single cassette adventure. If that sounds far fetched then remember that D+D was pretty big back then...

This sounds very neat indeed, still! I do miss the old micro idea of turning on the system and, right away, you could just start coding. It sure was a lot of fun learning the instructions and putting together your own programs :-).

Great memories, kerr! Could it have been Mirrorsoft's First Steps with the Mr Men?

I must’ve been seven or so with an initiation familiar to many British kids of a similar age when my brother and I got a Sega Master System II with Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in. Around the same time we got World Grand Prix and The Ninja which were budget titles - our family couldn’t afford the full price ‘action or ‘arcade’ games like Sonic or The Lucky Dime Caper.

We got a NES shortly after and I’ve got much fonder memories of things I played like Paperboy, Turtles Arcade, The Addams Family, Mario 3, RC Pro Am, California Games and Blue Shadow on that console.

I can't vote for some reason but in 1993. I played as a 3 year old James Pond 2 on my Dad's Amiga CD32.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was either 1993 or 1994, with Links: The Challenge of Golf on MS-DOS; various unlicensed '80s clones on the TV Boy; and Sonic, and Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse on the SEGA Master System II. Memories all blend into one so I couldn't tell you precisely what one of those was actually first.

First memories of playing games are Bubble Bobble, Ghostbusters and 1942 on my dad's Commodore 64, which must have been around 1993/94. "My" first console was this at Christmas 1996:

Getting Sonic, Shinobi and streets of Rage at the same time must have been epic

Nah, to be fair, playing stuff like Turtles Arcade, The Addams Family, Mario 3, RC Pro Am, California Games and Blue Shadow must have been dang cool.

SEGA Soccer was my most-played game, to the point I could win the World Cup with China :slol:

I didn't know anything about games then so I just gravitated to the football one. Played a lot of Sonic and Columns and a bit of Super Monaco GP but I didn't like Revenge of Shinobi at all. Too hard. I don't really remember playing Streets of Rage until a few years later.

Unfortunately the vote has ended, Qikz. It's a strange thing but I created this thread last Tuesday and thought that it could prove to be pretty popular. And then... hardly anyone posted or voted! It wasn't until yesterday when Victor posted that others suddenly seemed to notice it. Victor must be some kind of GR influencer  .

Three! Wow, I think this could be the earliest. I recall Pedz mentioning that he was around 4 when he started gaming. It's ace that your first gaming was with the Amiga :toot: .

Castle of Illusion! Excellent on both the Mega Drive and the Master System, KK. It's funny how the MS got quite a lot of ports of big MD titles; although the Mega Drive did super-well, the Master remained surprisingly popular for a number of years.

Incredible, Spindash - you must have certainly enjoyed some cracking action on your dad's C64!

There's something so tingly nostalgic about old product packaging like this. Those game images to the right, it's the sort of thing you can imagine unwrapping on Christmas day and just staring at those, so excited to play it

This intrigued me, Spindash, as I didn't recognise the title. Did some digging and... ah! World Championship Soccer (US) and World Cup Italia '90 (UK/Europe)! You're still spot-in, though, as it seems the game was later released as Sega Soccer in UK/Europe. You must have played it a heck of a lot to win with China!

Oh, man, yeah. To get a console with *six* decent games must have been excitement overload.

Maybe 1986-7? I remember borrowing my neighbours Atari 2600 and playing Bonanza Bros and Yar’s Revenge. I later got a Vic-20 around 1989.

Those two systems were my first gaming, too, Carlos! I played on a pal's 2600 (around 1981) and my first system was the Vic (1984). Sandwiched in-between I played a couple of games on the BBC B computers at school; I recall Yellow River Kingdom and Killer Gorilla.

I'm sure I had played games before this, but my earliest memory is being over a friend's house and playing Ghostbusters on his Amstrad. I guess I'd have been about 6 or 7.

I'm a little surprised... Amstrads were popular... but not *that* popular compared to the C64 and the Spectrum... and yet so many GRcadians have used one. Tons of CPC action!
