I have Facebook and Instagram accounts but I don't have the apps on my phone, I only check in sometimes via the web browser.
I deleted my Reddit and Twitter accounts to reduce usage (and the latter to protest Musk) but I still dip in via the browser sometimes....trying to cut down though.
Facebook - partly out of habit, partly because it's the only way for me to stay in touch with friends in other countries. I'd like to delete it but it's useful for keeping up to date with my overseas friends so I'll probably keep it Twitter - but I barely use it and it's not good for my mental health so I actually deleted that this week Instagram - mainly to appease those friends that weren't on Facebook who wanted to see my photos of Japan. I barely post on there
Is WhatsApp considered social media? I tend to view it as an alternative to texting which I wouldn't consider to be social media.
GRcade is my main, ofc Whatsapp for family and friends Telegram for other friends Discord for Playdate community Twitter for sharing screenshots/clips from consoles
I'll use youtube and twitter logged out, youtube as it's got a monopoly on video content and twitter clicking through tweets that are shared elsewhere.
In a game dev capacity I also use Mastodon, Reddit and Youtube
Is whatsapp really a social media platform? It's just texts by internet, it's not got the kind of "news feed" kind of feature I'd expect of a conventional social media service.
I use Discord, but infrequently, mainly just the GRcade one, but there's a couple of other hobby servers I'm a member on because people want to insist you go there to post and ask questions, rather than do it in a sensible place like a google search indexable forum or subreddit. It's also linked to my patreon profile, so I get added to servers for things where I send someone a quid a month to keep making internet gooseberry fool and they think that means I want to be part of their "community". I don't.
Binned off Facebook years ago. I don't miss it. I've definitely lost touch with a few people off the back of doing so, but the reduction in anxiety that came with it, and not having so much of my personal information on there was a big plus. (Yes I know facebook own WHatsapp and that's on my phone so they still have access to some of my data, I don't want to be a total recluse though.)
I have an instagram that I use just for photography stuff. I post what I think are "good" photos of mine on there and follow other explicitly photography accounts, not friends, not meme pages, just photo stuff. It results in a much more focussed experience, and means I only use it when I'm interested in looking at photography stuff, rather than just opening it up all the time whenever I'm bored.
I spend far too much time on twitter, and am trying to cut back. The whole place getting worse and worse the longer Elmu is in charge makes this easier.
Youtube is probably a website I use too much, although I don't think I engage much in the social side of it. I certainly don't spend time engaging with the comments or reading the posts people can put on there. If it's not a video from my subscriptions, or something I've specifically searched for, I'll only otherwise end up watching videos I've been sent links to from elsewhere. The recommended page on there is a hellhole of clickbait gooseberry fool and timewasting shorts. I still prefer to think of it as a video hosting platform rather than the social media site it is clearly trying to be.
I've tried TikTok on my phone a couple of times, but always end up deleting it. It's like an attention vacuum, and I always came away from it unsure why I'd lost the last 15 minutes to it watching just the most garbage video content imaginable.
I have a Facebook account but don't really use it, maybe the odd message from someone I haven't talked to in 10 years pops up but I just ignore for the most part.
Is YouTube considered social media? I watch some videos from a few different channels but don't really make or read comments.

Oh! I have never used WhatsApp - I still have an old 2G phone (gasp!) - but, yeah, it seems that it's just for messaging rather than having "look at other stuff" features.

Yeah, I have a Facebook account but I only logon about once a year from my computer.

Sorry to hear about your Twitter experience, Outrunner. I use it quite a lot but only (95%j for videogame-related stuff. I don't get involved in many other topics, especially politics. In this way I find it okay to use!

I look at GR a lot when I'm at home. I like seeing what games folk are playing. As with any social media platform, sometimes things go awry and a wee break is needed, but - for me - generally the positives far outweigh any negatives.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Facebook. Some folk seem to post everything on there and I found it mentally exhausting. For some mindsets it's easy to fall prey to "social comparisons", too - with some people posting "look at me wearing my brand new clothes in my brand new car outside my brand new house!" - and start to put yourself down.

Definitely, Knoyleo! Although we know that (nearly) all big companies are bad/evil, we kinda have to choose something if we're gonna stay in touch nowdays.

I'd say so, JMJ! It allows the uploading and viewing of video alongside a chat capability. I watch quite a bit on YouTube; generally gaming, music and football-related stuff. Of course, it's easy to then be caught up in a bit of a wormhole via the links to other vids that appear!

I was *so* close to including Miiverse as a voting option! I dang loved it; messaging, chatting, drawing, posting screenshots - and all in game/genre specific folders! Blooming fantastic and I am still genuinely upset that Nintendo closed it down.

Since the API gooseberry fool killed mobile apps I haven't used it at all...
I have occasionally stumbled across a Reddit section whilst searching for stuff... but I have no real idea how it works. It seems to have areas/folders for everything imaginable; but it also appears to be a bit messy and random?
