Wouldn't it be nice if there was a new [insert franchise here] game?

I suddenly thought to myself wouldn't it be nice if there was a new NBA Jam game? I'd love to boomshakalak and shoot from downtown!

What game series would you like to see make a return? Whether it's Jet Set Willy or Call of Duty, please make your gaming wish and then post a vivid description in the comments.

I'd love a FPS remake of Nodes of Yesod.
Or a remake of the original UFO: Enemy Unknown.

Desert Strike. It just disappeared after Nuclear on PS1. A new game could be spectacular, with the graphical ability to zoom out when flying at speed. It would probably need to be future-set, to avoid political insensitivity.

Similarly, G-Police.

Black & White - would be brilliant on modern hardware with current AI for the creatures behavior.

XCOM and Civilization too.

Splinter Cell, with more of a focus on stealth again.

Dizzy. There's a great rpg/metroidvania in the making there.

Prey.

It's never going to happen but at the same time I can't think of anything that I would be more excited for.

Prey

Nodes of Yesod... wow, I gotta say I wasn't expecting that to crop up, Mommy. Odin Computer Graphics :datass: . Nice move!

And, yeah, a remake of UFO Enemy Unknown would be neat, too. I do have a PS1 copy but, alas, I have yet to try it out. The game has a great reputation.

Ah! That does seem to be a bit of a cult character, shy guy. Did you try the 3DS version?

The Strike series was so popular back in the day! It kinda just disappeared and, yes, a new version would be interesting.

Such a cool franchise and it had a lot of potential. With current tech this could really be neat, rinks.

Black & White with realistic creatures and movement would be very intriguing, Ironhide. I never played that game but it appeared to be pretty cool.

And a second shout for XCOM!

I haven't played it myself, Fisher, but I think the game was remade on Switch? Unless you are maybe thinking of another Lost in Blue title?

Oh, man, there have been rumours of a new Splinter Cell game for years! I have only tried the first one on the original Xbox; I recall being amazed by the sunlight beam and shadow effects :-). I also have Splinter Cell Blacklist on Wii U; I have to give it a go but the cover looks great!

Another old-school classic there, Victor! You're right, the gameplay did kinda act as an early Metroidvania.

You may already be aware but the original coders, The Oliver Twins, produced a new Dizzy adventure for the ZX Spectrum in late 2020. Click here to check out Wonderful Dizzy.

Hehe, I recall that you are a huge fan of the game, Jen! I picked it up in a sale ages ago but have yet to give it a play. I liked the look of it; the presentation was very cool. I had heard that it's quite tricky at first.

Ah! I knew about Zip Lash but not Photo Finder. It's neat that you have both of 'em.

Outrun. Thought it was absolutely brilliant on Xbox in 2004 and then PSP a couple of years later and I’ve not played it since.

Also dug SEGA Rally back out on PS3 this past year, and that’s fantastic as well. Maybe a bit too much rubber banding AI on later tracks, and the lack of rumble is a shame, but like Outrun just feels so great and easy to play. Gaming without the need for extreme concentration or having to memorise 100 different button combinations on a controller.

Much along the same lines, Ridge Racer from Namco, Destruction Derby and WipEout from Sony, and Project Gotham Racing from Microsoft.

Can’t say I have much faith in any of these ever coming back as new games however, as where are the devs with the experience? Unless you’re Gran Turismo the bottom has also dropped out of the racing game market.
