Just watched the film for the first time.

6.5/10, was pretty good but totally forgettable, much like most of these recent franchise-revivals (Robocop, Terminator, Predators etc etc).

Also wish at least one of the kids had died but I guess you can't have everything.

Also just thought - the film ended without explaining what happened to the loose T-Rex and Raptor. And how did the massive dino-shark know that the Indominis was right there ready to be snapped up? There were a couple of moments of dinosaur ex machina, bit lazy.

The indominous was pretty crap I thought, and it got a bit daft with the super raptor best friends. The park though was absolutely fantastic, really wanted that annoying kid with the phone to get eaten.

Not a bad film, but they can never recapture the magic of the original.

And yet that's the genius of the film. They openly admit that the audience wouldn't be happy with just dinosaurs again, like the original, so the Indominous has to be included. The in-film narrative with the park-goers wanting something even bigger than before mirrors the real world demand for the film to be as good as, if not better than, the originals.

This ends terribly in-film for the park, and for the viewer watching the film - until the original T-Rex is released in the finale to defeat the Indominous. The original literally defeats the new in the film.

When I realised this I went from liking the film as a throwaway blockbuster to thinking it a work of art

Perhaps a bit strong but that's what I love about the film too. It's a brilliant approach to such a tricky sequel. Mixed results for sure but it's some A+ meta commentary
