Seen a mix of reviews, but i will go in with optimism. Going to bust out my JP jumper for the occasion as well. :datass:

After hearing lots of good things I'm finally willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt. Nothing will ever reach the heights of the original, so I've come to accept that and will try and enjoy this for what it is. Plus it looks like they've really made a good effort.

Disappointed by the huge amount of CGI though, surely they had enough money to have more practical effects.

Just came back from seeing this. Thought it was average at best if I'm honest. Not quite the train wreck of JP3 but then that wouldn't be hard.

Any word on the 3D version of this? I usually try and avoid it unless I hear good things, going to see it tonight.

Especially as this is a big positive of the original, and one of the reasons it hasn't aged badly

Right, just got back from the cinema.

Jurassic World is very good popcorn movie, and for two thirds of its runtime it's also a pretty fantastic Jurassic Park sequel - but it gets sillier and sillier as it reaches its conclusion. Everything starts wonderfully, you get plenty of time to see the park in action, the characters work for what they are (shallow but there's enough there to make them work) and everything is paced nicely.

When the gooseberry fool hits the fan it holds together well too, the I-Rex is scary in all the right ways and the scenes with it are good. The film veers sharply into silly territory right around the time you'd expect it to if you've watched the trailers however. The Raptor Squad works for the most part though because they make it very clear that the animals only have the most tenuous of connections to Chris Pratt's character, and an even more tenuous one with just one other. Even then both characters are still scared of the raptors and know they're wild animals who will eventually tear them apart given the chance.

There's some excellent stuff with them but once all the parts come together for the finale it gets ridiculous. Still fun, but ridiculous and much closer to your standard summer blockbuster than the original JP.

It really just needed to chill the strawberry float out a bit come the end, just calm down and take a more measured approach. There's an abundance of stuff going on most of the time and it's all moving at an insane pace - when there's a field of dinosaurs they fill the screen when really you only need a half dozen or so.

I'd go for three stars initially, but at the same time I can easily see how some would give it four stars and I can see why some JP fans might absolutely hate it. I did really enjoy it however, it's just a bit jarring how individual it is, and how it commits to its own ideas and themes - something which is certainly commendable, and I always thought it was, just seeing the final product is a lot to take in for someone who has waited 14 years for this film.

Pretty much what I thought. Although I would have given it a 3/5. It starts off really well and it's fantastic in that it gives us the vision of what Hammond originally envisioned for the park. Halfway through though it turns into a load of old toot!
with such turkey scenes and characters like Clair outrunning a T-Rex on heels and the nonsensically cliche cardboard character of Hoskins. It was nice that they paid homage to the original movie but it got to the point of embarrassment and ultimately it became a hindrance to JW because this film simply isn't as good as the original film. Chris Pratt was as fab as expected though and I still have a thing for Bryce Dallas Howard, so that was something...I guess.

Just got back from seeing it, loved it :) I was so fearful I wouldn't ahah.

It gave me tremendous, well made and imaginative blockbuster entertainment, which is all I wanted out of a new Jurassic Park film. It doesn't quite beat the first film, but it's easily better than the lousy sequels and an excellent modern action movie in its own right.

I think more than anything, this shows how important tone is to a film. I accepted a lot of the goofier stuff because the film had a strong sense of fun, unlike relentlessly dour yet dumb action flicks like Man of Steel and Godzilla (2014).

Quick review; uneven but enjoyable. The bits that worked, especially the first act, worked really well, and are up there with the best of JP1. However, the sillier bits are particularly silly, and much more noticeably so than in JP1. And there is some proper amazing stuff in there, but some proper head in hands nonsense too.

Saw this last night. I liked it, but good god there are some awful bits in it. Every character bar Chris Pratt is either gooseberry fool and/or a cliche. Disappointed with the kid from Iron Man 3 cus he was good in that, but awful in this. (Actually Omar Sy was alright, but he had strawberry float all to do).

The new dino is basically a t-rex and it's secret ability is perfect plot device. oh it can camo, but watch it never do it again. oh it can change it's thermals, but watch it never do it again. oh it's got raptor DNA watch that mean nothing later on in the film though. Also if INGEN knew the I-Rex had Raptor DNA, did they not think that might impact the Raptor's being able to hunt it down?

The Raptors siding with Burt Macklin again for no real reason other than THEY HAVE A CONNECTION and the resulting T-Rex vs I-Rex fight was ridiculous as well. BDH outrunning the T-Rex in heels, OK M8. The CGI hurt it as well. The bit with the raptors early on in the cage when he's trying to save that guy would have been a million times better with "real" raptors from the first film. Like that scene with the dying dino, could have been completely cut and you would have lost nothing but I liked it because it wasn't using CGI.

What the hell was with the characters flirting in this film as well? Teenage kid just states at girls, the guy from New Girl and that girl was just weird, Chris Pratt and BDH had no connection and the "we should stick together for survival" *walks off together into the sunset* was horrendous.

I suppose it's better than that leaked script of the human/raptor hybrids though :dread:

If they do a sequel it needs to just be Pratt and Goldblum together with badass Raptor squad mk.2 going after INGEN.
