Yeah, won't be watching that American Boogey woman film - not fan on horror films or most films in general based on real life serial killers particularly masturbatory highly fictionised accounts (Once upon time in Hollywood is a big exception to this though). Male serial killers like Ted Buddy we're supposed to be impressed with their intelligence / charm, female serial killers we're supposed to feel sorry them - F-that!

Not a fan of Saw then? I thought the first one was a genuinely clever, low budget good film - watched some of the others but they went in a completely [much more gory] different direction and they're not my type of thing.

Good review - all good points and fair! I did really like it You Are Not My Mother. Depressing though, probably won't ever watch again

Ooooops By Less terrible role I meant that he is not a killer in this, he plays a nice enough person....I think Saw is great in particular the first two films and then Spiral, I am just so used to seeing Tobin Bell as the killer it was weird to see him as a regular dude

I can fully understand why you wouldn't watch American Boogey Woman apparently even the killer herself made some comment about how sick it was people would profit off of her for years to come.

:D Like I say I really like the first one. Not a big fan of the subsequent ones, but Tobin Bell is great in them - the highlight of all the sequels is just him talking in the non-violent bits and delving into his philosophy and backstory/

Director seems like a piece of I haven't seen it, but read the wiki synopsis for that Haunting of Sharon Tate film. That was depressing - seems super disrespectful and bad taste. I also dislike film that kind of get off on how evil the Mansion family were, that's why I like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - they was in no way portrayed as cool, just dirty, lazy and stupid.

I watched the Haunting of Sharon Tate but never reviewed it, I expected it to be based on true events and then at the end where she didn't die I was just like what the heck kind of parallel universe stuff is this.... strangely enough I was talking about this with my misses earlier and how people close to her might find it distasteful etc

Sorry, mini bump and not strictly on topic.

Spiral the new one with Will Smith as the detective? Is that one worth a look? Like I say I enjoyed the first Saw film a lot but not the sequels so much. Spiral kind of goes in a different direction doesn't it - more of a whodunit, like going after whoever the copycat or apprentice is delving into the culprits motives etc. I don't like how violent and graphic the earlier sequels were - is this one a little tamer?

I finally got round to watching the film Spiral. Great review and glad you enjoyed it so much!

I thought it was alright but I wasn't thrilled with it. I feel bad for complaining about Tobin Bell not being in it, because its meant to be a spin off and go in a different direction but I definitely missed Bell! In fact I probably enjoyed Jigsaw (2017) more - which I really didn't think was great; in Jigsaw I liked that Kramer realised mid-trap that the x-ray op with PTSD didn't deserve to be punished because of an honest mistake, took him under his wing and mentally built him up again.

I must admit the gore in Spiral was a bit much for me and I found myself having to look away a few times! The most interesting stuff in Spiral was the police corruption / brutality commentary. Agreed really solid acting from Chris Rock though, S Jackson was good too!

They're making a Saw 10 due for release Oct 2023 - I wonder if they'll pick up from Spiral or do a more traditional sequel with Kramer appearing in flashback (though the actor is knocking on a bit now) or [yet another] soft reboot or a different kind of spin off :D

Yep I do love all the Police Corruption related stuff it felt like it had a real point.... it was kind of like Saw Crossed with the film Filth. I do understand missing Tobin Bell but yeah he is knocking on a bit so cant do this sort of thing forever. Spiral is definitely a very gory film, its like saw dialled up to 11 in that regard.
