Huge fan of the manga and anime. So I am disappointed this is a mere arena fighter, and yet seeing Zenitsu's (the boy with the yellow hair and garb) character select animation made me really happy. But all the same, I can't help but wish that Sony allows their first party devs (Sucker Punch on this IP would be my dream game this gen), or maybe even accomplished third-party devs for multi platform releases, a crack at all the amazing anime licences they own.

The anime is up on Netflix (with the option of English or Japanese voice acting) if you're interested. And the manga series is complete as well. (A little over 200 issues, so it wouldn't be a huge time sink, if you're afraid of that.)

I take it this show is good? Wouldn't be the biggest anime fan but I've seen FMA Brotherhood, One Punch Man and Attack on Titan.

It is, aye. I heard about the manga and anime ages ago (mostly about how popular they both were), but I only got around to watching the anime thanks to it coming to Netflix. The hype was justified. The formula is a tried and tested one (serious business mixed with comic interludes) but both the manga and anime had me riveted. First series is out in full on Netflix. The film, which continues on from the end of the first series, is out in Japan, and the 2nd series is due this year.

It's strange that it's multi-platform but they're not bringing it to Switch. Bizarre to leave so much money on the table.

I haven't played any so I *may* give this a shot. If it's more than just okay. What I don't like is the manic 3D fighting of DBZ, et al.

Who even buys these arena fighters? They got old by the late 2000s.

For me it depends on the art. If it had the pixel art look and animation of the classic 2D fighters, and didn't bombard me with effects which obstructed the artwork which modern 2D fighters do, then I'd definitely prefer a 2D fighter to arena fighter.
