I don't think the jank and bugs are going to go away, if that's what you're hoping.

The appeal of the game for me is the realistic setting and mechanics and the branching, player choiceful quest design.

We'll I'd start by not going back to my home village, why you did that I have no idea, it's full of enemy dudes. I'm ok with some jank but the start is so bad it's laughable.

It's literally the main quest you get given

Maybe they changed something? because, yes when you leave the castle you go to your village and scrap a couple of looters, then you find your parents and threaten dude to get spade to bury them...but if you take a wrong turn you end up against like 12 dudes. After a cut scene you get battered in, you eventually wake up 2 weeks from then in a Windmill and the credits start up. So not sure you've actually started the game proper or the start has changed.

Fighting the looters is the combat I was referring to. I was calling getting out of the castle the point where the game opens up proper as then I think you are free to go where you want, rather than being railroaded.

The game doesn't open up proper as it uses a cutscene to get you back to home place. Where I am now is the game proper, not least because I can actually go where I want and there's side quests, the fact the credits and title of the game appear on screen with a musical score is probably proof.

I killed those looters first time and I hadn't played the game in months (they only take 3 hits) its guys with armour and shields that are hard to kill.

This is why I got the PC version so you could mod the lock picks and save schnapps shite.

Fair enough, I don't remember the transition! I'm not sure what happens then if you try to ride off in a different direction from the castle, the area around it is completely open, and I did pick up a side quest there before leaving.

And in fairness on combat being tough, it took me a while to even figure out the custom made sword could be equipped

Anyone still on this? Been playing a bit of this on PS4 lately, the story's good but it does feel quite linear for the most part. The loading screens everywhere are a bit of a pain too.

Make sure you change the Lockpicking to 'SIMPLE' in options, its still terrible but not as bad.

This is my 12th attempt at level 1 (easy lock) picklocking.

You have to move that ball thing into position till it goes yellow then use LB to turn lock, you have to bring yellow thing along at same time. The problem is that, controlling that yellow ball is like a quarter degree turn on your right stick, so you have to rotate nearly 360 without going back to centre or out to the edge. It's insane.

If you don't change the Lockpicking in options you have to rotate the lock with your left stick, but it hasn't got a defined 'start' so you could turn your left stick 340 degrees and then the lock will start rotating, then doing both is actually impossible.

It's also surprisingly easy to have sex by accident in this game, so be careful if you're going for the achievement for completing the game without having sex with anyone.

Ended up getting this for christmas, and I accidentally started the Woman's Lot DLC by talking to Theresa just after the game's opening credits. I was enjoying the prologue, but this DLC, once the Cuman's arrive, has been absolutely strawberry floating diabolical. Is it meant to be some kind of meta commentary on what it was like being a woman in the middle ages? Because so far, A Woman's Lot has basically been tedious, boring, unfair, and just plain shite. Who's idea was it to make you do a stupid fetch quest AT NIGHT when you need to try and be stealthy because Theresa can't seem to do anything in a fight despite being reasonably well armed, because "lol woman"

Absolutely livid I can't just kill the prick I need to do this mission for to save the hassle of having to collect everything.

Been off sick for the past week and a bit so I've had chance to knuckle down with Kingdom Come properly now! Having a much better time with it now I've got my head around most of the mechanics. Lockpicking can still get in the sea, though. Still not sure what determines someone noticing you rifling through their pockets either, so rather than risk them spotting me I've basically taken to just knocking people out and then robbing them blind. Some of the equipment the guards have on them is worth loads!

Got myself a horse, too :toot: Really useful when your pockets are getting full. If you send stolen items to your horse will they still flag up as stolen if Henry gets searched by a guard?

Had an annoying bug the other day, though - Was doing the quest for the one Miller where he wants you to steal a couple of Waffenrock's from Talmberg, so I head there, pickpocket the guard to get the key, nab all the stuff, and then start galloping back to the Miller, but on the way something triggers the "You're in combat" icon on the compass at the top of the screen, and it refuses to go away. I went to hunt out a bandit to get into proper combat and then kill him to hopefully make the game realise that I'm now out of combat, but it wouldn't leave me alone! So I couldn't talk to anyone, couldn't save, couldn't sleep, couldn't pass time or anything to try and save the progress I'd made up to that point. So as a last resort I figured I should try and get myself arrested, so went up to the inn in Rattay and punched the guy who keeps beating me at dice, so everyone scarpers and Captain Bernard runs up to arrest me ("You've been beating people up! It's jail for you. I hope you rot in there!" says the guy who I've been training with daily  :( How quickly they turn on you... ), and then the game just locks up on the loading screen of me going to jail :x

Stole a lot more doing it the second time though, so it's not all bad. Finished the romance quest with Theresa, too. Wasn't expecting it to be so graphic considering when he gets some at the bathhouse you just get a black screen and a bit of moaning :shifty:

Was all the sex you have had on purpose? Or was some of it “by accident”?

I learned way too late in this that there’s a self locking chest at the mill you wake up at after the escape section specifically designed for you to practice lick picking until you gain a few levels in it.

I've sat down to actually play through this recently after trying it a bit ages ago and...oh man...I'd forgotten how utterly strawberry floating awful the melee combat actually is.
