Is that just a console issue?

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

That's odd, I found a chest that was already open before I got to it, too. Behind the iron maiden under the bridge iirc.

I just assumed it was some weird storytelling thing and someone got to it first, as there was a diary saying someone was looting chests looking for food.

Never occurred to me it might be a bug.

Waiting for the Switch version next week, hopefully it'll stack up well against the other console versions.

Bug is reported so hopefully it gets fixed soon.

I've still been playing but have no where to go so just been grinding and doing one of the side quests. Very recently finished SOTN, so it's fresh in my memory. Some of the level design is directly taken from that, as are the enemies and Easter eggs. Even down to a character in a library sitting at a desk with a gap under his desk, just waiting to be exploited by a super jump.

Link to tweet because I'm a silly who can't figure out how to embed

TL;dr- the best way to fix the chest bug is to restart the game on a 1.02 build.

Any other options they looked at apparently introduce further issues later.

It does suck, but I'm only 8 hours in so it's not that big a deal. I will miss some of my shards, though, as I had a pretty good drop on some of them.

I mean, that's a pretty disgraceful bug to leave in. Completely disrespectful of players' time. Why push for this date after 5 years when the game is clearly not ready? This combined with the awful mess of review embargos post release is a mess they didn't need.

By the looks of it, they patched the bug in and if you can keep it on 1.00 or 1.01 it will also play just fine. Which is a very strange case because I'm not sure what the patch would be changing otherwise.

Are the patch notes kicking around anywhere? Did I just miss them, and are they detailed enough to actually describe what changed where?

Problem is that I'm digital only on PS4 so I can't remove a patch without removing the full game. I've started a new save file for now and will try to start again. At least until a patch is ready which fixes this. It's really disappointing as this is the game I've wanted for years and years and the game is brilliant but this delivery of it is shocking.

Patch culture is the worst thing in modern gaming. No other entertainment sector releases broken products then fixes them.

The review situation is weird too. The game should have gone gold (finished and tested not finished and rushed out) then sent to reviewes at least 1 week ahead of release so on the days before release positive reviews can generate sales.

If have preferred a September release date with a full game rather them doing an Anthem.

Pretty much caught up to where I was in this morning's session. It's amazing how much time you shave off knowing where to go and skipping dialogue. Unfortunately I'm missing a couple of shards that I had, mainly weapon expertise ones and a levelled Gale Crawler, but the game showered me with some other ones I had missed before.

My Switch copy has been dispatched, feeling a bit more positive about it after reading mainly good things in this thread (bug being the main bad thing currently from the sounds of it).

Mine has been sent also, though I don't know when I'll play it on there as I have it digitally on PC too

Started playthrough 2 and catching up quickly. Just had a hard crash to desktop on the PS4. Not great but it's pretty rare. Game is wonderful and I even found a secret as the room looked like a sotn one so I tried the same place as that and found a secret. Amazing stuff.

Despite my cynicism about the crashes and awful bugs, this has probably crept up my most wanted list. Likely to wait a few months to a drop in price, when all the patches are live and some DLC is out.

10 hours into this and closing in on good ending with loads of unlocked new skills and abilities. It really it just dark souls but 2D. Which is wonderful.

New abilities mix things up much more than previous castlevanias. Voice acting is amazing with Solid Snake and the original Alucard from SOTN showing up to voice 2 new charcters.

I can easily see this moving up to my second favourite game of all time if it continues at this pace.

The upgrade system and shards are so well done. Grinding and farming is a joy.

Dark souls in 2D? Well, now I feel like I've wasted £60+.

strawberry float.

Guess the game is different to the demo, as it was basically Aria/Dawn of Sorrow.

I don't think this is anything like Dark Souls :?:

So I'm about 25% map completion now, and less for all the demos/items/shards etc. after about 4 hours of playtime.

Aside from a few bugs here and there and the bit of a botched release for numerous reasons I can easily see this being my favourite (not)Castlevania. It's incredible.

98%. Getting closer to the good ending.

Found all the keys I think and most of the abilities.

Currently have two sets of equipment, one for damage and one for high luck to find more items and shards. Trying to find everything I can and then face the final boss.

Gameplay wise it's the best Castlevania game (despite not being one) it's a lot more polished than SOTN but I still prefer that for the characters, locations and music.

It's just so playable with so many attack options.

I'm in the same situation. Got the two bad endings and sitting on about 92% map, and saved in what is almost certainly the last area. I've heard that you can continue exploring after beating the game, so I'm gong to go and get the good ending before just farming out a bunch of the items/shards/etc because that's going to take a stupid amount of time.

And yes, I think this is definitely up there and may take the top spot. I'll have to see where it settles over the months, but I'm really happy with how this went and, outside of the spotty launch, think this is the best kickstarter I've backed.

How difficult is it, versus the likes of Hollow Knight? And are the secrets reasonably sign posted to do a 100% run without a YouTube guide?

Trying to avoid spoilers by dodging the abundance of gameplay videos in my recommendations
