It's definitely "one of those". Feels like I've played it before when obviously I haven't. No bad thing, it's like the gaming equivalent of comfort food.

If you have any experience of Iga from his previous games I don't see how you can be disappointed :)

Didn't play much this last week but a couple more hours last night. Still loving it. About 35% map completion now; just got the double jump and killed the twin dragon boss

Time to explore further :datass:

Oh I went on a big metroidvania kick last summer, one of my favourite genres. I'm actually at the same place as you.

Woo hoo just beat the game. It's a really really good game. Enjoyed my time with it. :D

If I had to sum the game up in one line it would be symphony of the night but in HD.

Started last night and for me I still see it as more Aria/Dawn of Sorrow than SotN due to the soul... I mean Shard mechanic.

So... has anybody else been foolish/restricted in their machines enough to buy this on Switch? Has anybody else had 'the software closed because an error occurred'? It happened to me for the second time today, halfway up what I think is the second of the clockwork towers, scuppering a significant amount of progress. It's put me off playing the game until a patch comes along.

Also Robbo, I think it was to you who I said the Switch's performance issues weren't as big as they've been made out to be? I've now reached some bigger later areas, and I'm sorry to say that the bloody thing is chugging along, frame rates and loading pauses both, not to mention the game-enders I referred to above. If you can get it on another machine I'd recommend that. Sorry for misleading you.

The only issue I've had on Switch so far is the rumble sounding horrific at low health. But I haven't played a great deal. I'm up to that guy with the fire sword. :dread:

I think I said maybe they weren’t as bad as they were made out to be? I can’t remember

Doesn’t sound great as you progress though, think I’ll definitely leave it till most issues have been sorted before starting it, annoying but not much else I can do as I don’t really want more than one version of the game.

Gebel boss spoilers

So I did a bunch of crafting and side missions and didn't know that boss was in that room, and didn't know there was a bad ending. Got a game over and it went back to my last manual save. Pretty, pretty annoying.

Guess I should have seen it coming with it being a SotN clone but eh. No bueno.

I managed to figure out Gebel was there thanks to the giant staircase and the area being called Hall of termination. I left that area alone and came back once I explored everywhere else

Well, I am up against what I believe to be the final boss. Really enjoyed my time with this. It really is a spiritual successor to Aria and Dawn of Sorrow. Dawn of Sorrow

I do wonder how many people played the Sorrow games like EZA were saying about the game and it being like SotN but you get shards, with no mention of the exact same soul stealing mechanic in the Sorrow Castlevania games. It's a shame really. Still, this is ace, I have had some glitches here and there. THough nothing that has spoiled the game for me.

Anyone played the Switch version recently? If so how is it performing after a couple of patches? Still not got round to starting it but as I currently only have Hollow Knight and Bloodstained in my backlog one of them is being played next, leaning towards Hollow Knight but if the Switch version is pretty decent on 1.02 (think thats the version the Switch is now on) then I might go ahead with this.

Why did they make one of the shards required to progress a random drop from an enemy?

No other time in the game is that the case, they all had specific boss fights beforehand.

What an incredibly odd design decision.

The swimming one. You need it to propel yourself through the water. It's a random but frequent drop from a water based enemy.

It was the passport bit that got me. They could have given some better clues.

Yeah, bit I didn't bother engaging with those enemies because I couldn't swim yet.

I guarantee that and the train pass have probably out people off finishing the game.

It's a shame because other than that and the glitches it's a good game.

The passport was sorted for me, the problem I had is I didn't go to the train area so didn't have a strawberry floating clue what I needed it for

Luckily I went to the train first, so I got the dialogue option on the right NPC on my first visit. But playing through with a friend who skipped over it at first was annoying because I was trying not to just say "No, go here".

It's that the photo is called identification in your inventory that threw me off, I didn't understand what else I needed to do.
