I still dont see how this is worth the over 50 pricetag. Maybe for the very few who did not get to play the originals its worth the investment. I can see myself getting it in the future if it hits the 20-25 mark

The box art for the physical version seems to confirm that a download will be required even though it appears that Nintendo themselves are publishing it. :|

That’s a bit crap but sadly expected, at least it’s not a cloud version

I’m still more interested in how it looks and runs on the Switch though as the temptation of portable GTA is very strong.

Nintendo is publishing a Grand Theft Auto release.

If you'd told me that 20 years ago it would have blown my mind.

Soz if I'm missing something obvious, Drum, but... where does it say that Nintendo are publishing the game? I just tried looking it up and both the Nintendo UK and the Nintendo US sites have Rockstar listed as publishing.

Not trying to catch you out; just interested to see if any info elsewhere has Nintendo listed as the publisher.

Tons of places reporting on it being strongly rumoured, I don't think anything is confirmed yet thought which is why I worded my post that way.

twitter.com/DirectFeedGames/status/1452691185127075851

But then that same source says that there's no download banner on the Switch cover and it appears to all be on a 32GB cart.

strawberry float knows.

Cheers, Drum. I checked out the Twitter channel... I dunno, I'd be surprised if Nintendo are publishing it. I'm on tablet at the mo' but here is the info where Nintendo themselves have "Rockstar Games" listed as the publisher:

Nintendo UK - click
Nintendo US - click

The US site also has the file size listed as 25.4 Gb.

This is generally why I avoid Twitter, it's a hive of misinformation.

Could mean Nintendo are handling the physical distribution. They've done this for other big third party releases like Doom and Skyrim I think.

I think Nintendo do this when third parties don't want to do a physical release because of the coat of cartridges. Nintendo obviously get better rates so they take it on for a cut and better for them to have physical versions on shop shelves.

Also I think means Nintendo may get involved in marketing. I recall Switch ads including Skyrim and Dark Souls. Be interested to see if GTA pops up in a Nintendo ad

On the cost of carts... Surely Nintendo own the IP of their carts and manufacture them? So would there even be a cost to them?

Well yes, they have to pay the cost of manufacturing them but third parties no doubt have to pay a margin on top of the cost price for Nintendo. So itll be cheaper for Nintendo.

Which is why they should use the 32GB carts :capnscotty:

I suppose best case scenario is we get 2 games on the cartridge and then have to download one of them? They’ve given the sizes for GTA 3 and San Andreas so suppose Vice City could be the one we download?

It'll definitely be the first game on the cartridge, then the other 2 as a download, because this is Nintendo we're talking about.

Almost making a physical copy largely pointless

I hope you can have each game as a separate install, because it'll fill a lot of the switch memory up having the full thing on there.

Yep. I do like a box and a cart/disc but, in my eyes, physical games have generally been download/access keys for quite a few years now.

Hopefully, it does have them as separate items in the bundle on the Switch’s eShop which seems to imply you might be able to download them as and when?

Sadly so, thankfully most first party Nintendo games seem to be the outlier in this alongside the odd third party game (Skyrim, The Witcher 3) that has all the game on one cartridge.

It's extremely poor Nintendo are distributing this and not using the 32GB cartridges which could hold the game in full...

...especially as Witcher 3 used the 32GB

I suspect we're not gonna see the complete Trilogy on a Switch cart because it's a relatively awkward total file size; at around 25Gb it's (obvs!) too much for a 16Gb cart whilst a (fairly more expensive) 32Gb cart would mean around 7Gb of empty space.
