From the sounds of it the games are in a much better state than at launch. I’m waiting for a sale as I’ve still got plenty to crack on with before buying another 3 games.

New Digital Foundry video on the latest patch (1.04) and how it improves the games on Xbox/PS5:

No mention of the Switch version at all so I'm guessing that's still ropey as strawberry float.

So improved, but still some issues. Looks like they are playable and probably in balance better to play than the original, but they deserve better.

I wonder if they will ever offer these as separate games. Vice City is the only one of the trio which I want to replay. Unless they price this collection stupidly cheap, it will always feel like I'm overpaying to purchase it for just one game.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

They are aren't they? San Andreas was the only one available on Game Pass, I always assumed that they all had separate launchers and SKUs.

Edit - nope, I was wrong.

Plenty of text still mangled in upscaling, so it's still not fixed

Not that they will ever fix the fundamental issue of the mismatch between texture quality and model complexity which I think for me is always going to ensure the originals are superior.

Anyone played these since the updates? They're on sale on Steam and I've been tempted. Deck and achievements are making it tempting.

I never had any issues with the latest patch and I enjoyed playing them.

It ran smoothly for me on the PS5.

I got this for XSX some time ago because it went down in price and came with a free headset.

So I've not experienced it personally pre-patch (just seen footage of it), but from my experience of playing through GTA III it was pretty decent. I had never beaten this one before and the feature of being able to restart missions immediately after failing them or dying helped a lot. An actual checkpoint system like they had said they would add would have been nice, but most of the missions are not that long anyway. Some are pretty tough though, bordering on unfair with the amount of aggro shooting mobs throughout the game and how fragile the cars are, so the restart feature was nice for that.

Something else that's nice about this version compared to the original is that it's 60fps. You can play the (original) PC versions at 60fps, but out of the box they are buggy with incorrect physics and I don't think even mods completely deal with that.

Not played through this collection's versions of Vice City or San Andreas yet - the latter I've played through so will be interesting to compare - and I've heard they have some more issues but I'll see how I get on with them in due time.

Started GTA 3 tonight on Deck and I really like it. Such a trip down memory lane and I actually like the new graphics, the lighting is very nice. Love it

That's GTA 3 done. Loved it. Although I thought I would go for 100% but I doubt it now. The paramedic missions in particular are too much effort, especially once you've reached a point that gangs are shooting at you.

Did get 61 hidden packages which is way more than I did in my teenage years.

On to Vice City next :datass:
