Hopefully they can improve them a lot, I’m not buying it till they have anyway, preferably when it’s on sale too.

Someone at Rockstar signed off on the games, they have nothing to complain about. They went for a clear cash grab and tried to do it dirt cheap. I would go so far as to say that dev is going to still get work from Take two and Rockstar.

Rockstar sets the budget and deadline. Could just as easily be their fault for not giving the studio suitable levels of resources.

It feels a little bit like they accidentally released a beta version from months ago, Dead Island-style.

Good, let's hope they will fix most of things and treat what it is supposedly to be.

I have had a really good 10 hours of San Andreas, but I think I have had my fill now. Time to move on to something else. I’m pretty sure this is how I felt when I first played it tbh.

The patching commitment is good but I'm unconvinced how easily problems like lack of attention to art direction can be solved by simply patching assets and other visual effects in isolation.

Generally speaking I am not a fan of "patch culture". I think it allows publishers to put extra pressure on developers to get a "working product" onto the market with the idea that any problems can be fixed later on.

It's all part of exploiting the video game market, along with Day 1 DLC and all the other nefarious practices.

Far better than the old way of releasing a broken game with no way to fix it other than buying a new copy and hoping it's been fixed.

According to Rockstar's own website, the patch applies to all versions EXCEPT Nintendo Switch:

This is why Rockstar are the best. They've realised there's a mistake, owned it and are now going to fix it. Real class outfit.

Yeah... and it's pretty odd as, amongst that list of updates, there is a Switch-only change:

I am surprised with your response. There's that other way which involves waiting until a game is properly finished before releasing it, which is what I thought of.

Perhaps I'm being unreasonable or stuck in the past by expecting a released product to be the finished article?

Not even stuck in the past. That has never, ever happened. Patches and updates are a necessary part of any software lifespan. A million users will catch a lot more things than a handful of QA testers.

SA no longer crashes when I try to progress, and I can turn some of the contrast up a bit in picture settings (Xbox Series X)

I can't think of a single piece of software that hasn't been subject to updates or revisions.

I was thinking games up to and including the 128-bit generation.

They weren't always perfect mind.
