Back then Rockstar were complaining about disc space too. It's why the TV shows in the 360 version were low-quality and you couldn't watch them in full screen, but you could in the PS3 version.

But on the PS3 the whole game was low quality resolution wise and inferior framerate.

Keep the TV shows. ;)

Point being GTAIV fitted on a DVD, I don't see how this game will not as basically multi disc games on 360 have been those with loads of hugh quality FMV.

Mass Effect 2 didn't have loads of HQ FMV videos and still ended up on 2 discs.

Anyway, This game appears to be doing a lot more than GTA4 did.

Various indoor locations, significantly more unique dialogue, a new animation engine, improved visuals, etc, etc.

Not hard to see why the 360 is struggling.

The point really is though how many 360 games have been cancelled because of the limitations of DVD?

I can't think of any, with 40 million plus userbase to aim at with the highest attach rate publishers will make it work.

The problem with this game is that the initial design never included the size of a DVD, if a 360 version had been on the agenda from day one then this wouldn't be an issue at all. It's all swings and roundabouts which is why I'll be playing Metro 2033 in a couple of weeks and PS3 owners will not.

Which is the answer and was no problem, a few seconds to change a disc............

but it isn't? it could just do with more storage space or them allowing HDD only games

That was 2008. Games are getting bigger and bigger, like Cooldawn said.

DVD soon will be outdated.

So with a year or two before the next xbox left it's finally becomming more of an issue?

seems that dvd wasn't such a bad choice then.. if the xbox brand had been hamstrung by the price required to host a new format optical drive it would have never taken off.

Or they could use like two discs.

Soon.. seems they picked the right gen to stick with DVD then. Considering all the rest of the tech in the two hd consoles are outdated already i can't see it bing that big an issue.

The only thing BluRay has given me as gamer so far is a full strawberry floating HDD, its so slow that my 60gb PS3 is full of compulsary installs that have been dumped onto it.

That's not too much of a problem for a linear game, but when it's a sandbox it's not quite that simple.

This isn't the first dev to complain about DVD limitations, only a few weeks ago we had Capcom claiming that the 360 was holding back the development & original scope of Lost Planet 2.

But due to the larger 360 install base, they can't simply go PS3 only and the only remaining choices are to suck it up and pay MS for the additional disc or remove content and release a butchered LP2.

But it is possible.

Oh you kiddies.. you'd have hated the days of floppy disks and trying to play something like Kings Quest.

To have these massive games though you need a massive budget and a massive development team to work on it, you also then need massive sales which the smallest userbase in PS3 doesn't provide.

The restriction on game size isn't DVD, but the sales potential of recouping your budget and making a profit.

The proof will be if the PS3 version offers all this cut stuff come release, if the devs are so so sad I'm sure that the PS3 version will be unaffected, or maybe not.........

You know as well as I do that will never happen. Why? The backlash against Capcom & LP2 from 360 only owners.

But nice of you to try and put the blame back on Capcom instead of accepting that the 360 and its limitations are now starting to hold back games.

ones that have been specifically crafted around a certain platform, they should have just left it on there. Had they designed for both from day one it wouldn't be holding back anything.

Oh you kiddies.. you'd have hated the days of floppy disks and trying to play something like Kings Quest.

The problem is that the whole city is open to you and the missions themselves don't take up much space at all, so you can't simple shove the first half of the game on one disc and the 2nd half on another. If you were to do that then you would still need to put the whole city on both discs along with all the animation data, audio from the radio stations, and any other stuff that is found in the city (such as TV shows if this were GTA4). In the end you don't really save much space doing it that way and so it still might not be possible to fit the game on the DVDs.

The obvious solution is to split the city into two parts and put each half on a seperate disc. You are more likely to make the required space savings with this method but it would result in a game in which you have to swap discs every time you cross over to the other part of the city and then swap discs again whenever you come back.

It's always hard to tell but I take it this is a joke post? :fp:
