The BBC wrote:Lance Armstrong dropped by Nike over doping evidence

Nike stated that "due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Armstrong participated in doping... we have terminated his contract".
Armstrong, 41, has also stepped down as chairman of his charity Livestrong.

The majority of his money will have come from sponsorship which he won't have to pay back.

A sponsor could try to sue him if they think he breached terms of the agreement I guess but I can't see that happening.

There wasn't enough evidence for a criminal conviction so he probably won't have to pay back everything. But suing might take a chunk.

It's so upsetting. He still achieved objectively remarkable things, but cheating is unforgivable and his concerted actions have only continued the cycle of cheating.

Come on Wiggo, sort out this sport (has to be sports personality of the year).

What makes you think Bradley Wiggins is clean? If he is then he's in a very small group of Tour winners who have never tested positive for drugs.

We can never be sure and we have people like Lance Armstrong to thank for that.

He's never been linked to any suggestions of doping, a statistical analysis of the tour today suggests that their feats are humanly possible (before that they were not), the testing regime has been tightened up - especially for out of competition testing and the Olympics which he also won, he's British - which shouldn't be underestimated given we've not had that drugging culture so badly - and he's cool.

It's official ya'll

Lance Armstrong is stripped of seven Tour de France titles as cycling's world governing body, the UCI, accepts the findings of the US Anti-Doping Agency's investigation.

UCI President Pat McQuaid announced that the federation accepted the USADA's report on Armstrong and would not appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The decision clears the way for Tour de France organisers to officially remove Armstrong's name from the record books, erasing his consecutive victories from 1999-2005.

Tour director Christian Prudhomme has said the race would go along with whatever cycling's governing body decides and will have no official winners for those years.

USADA said Armstrong should be banned and stripped of his Tour titles for "the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen" within his US Postal Service and Discovery Channel teams.

The USADA report said Armstrong and his teams used steroids, the blood booster EPO, and blood transfusions. The report included statements from 11 former teammates who testified against Armstrong.

Armstrong denies doping, saying he passed hundreds of drug tests. But he chose not to fight USADA in one of the agency's arbitration hearings, arguing the process was biased against him.

Former Armstrong team director Johan Bruyneel is also facing doping charges, but he is challenging the USADA case in arbitration.

I think the wider implication of this is that it pretty much destroys the credibility of the Tour as a sporting spectacle. They should have got serious after the warning signs in 1997 but this whole saga just shows how inept the UCI were in tacking the doping problem.

I would hope for some whole scale review and overhaul of their anti-drugs policy going forward.

I guess it's the straw that breaks the camel's back but it's not hugely surprising.

@DavidWalshST: By end of week Jeff Tillotson, a Dallas lawyer, will file legal papers seeking return of circa $10m from LA for his client, SCA Promotions.

Tour organizer ASO want $3m back

SCA Promotions want $7.5m back

Hopefully the reports that Armstrong took a 30% slice of donations to the Livestrong Foundation are investigated. The man is a disgrace.

Now I think we are getting to the real meat of this story. He can be justified in saying he doesn't want anything to do with the USADA investigation if he thinks it's a hatchet job. He can even, at a stretch, justify his silence since the report.

However, now they want to claim large amounts of money back he is forced into a corner where he has to respond. He basically has no choice to either defend himself or admit wrong doing. His response over the next few days should be very interesting.

Despite my concerns and criticism over how the report has been conducted, his non-rebuttal of the report since it came out has been pretty damning.

Apparently he's got millions stashed all round the world. They'll never get it all back.

Should the insurance company not be going to US Postal for their money back as it was with the team they had the agreement? And then obviously it's up to them to get it back from LA

I think the win bonus will be down to the team and they may struggle to get that back from Armstrong. The Tour organisers have said today that they expect his prize winnings to be returned though so I think he will be obligated to comply there unless he wants to challenge it.

He doesn't have much choice, he can't just refuse to comply as they could tie him up in litigation which could bankrupt him.
