I tried 'Folklore' by Taylor Swift. Not for me I'm afraid. meh/10

I went back to Pendragon for the first time in a while. Sorry for the youtube link, they don't allow their stuff on spotify. Anyway, 9/10 for this one. It loses out on 10/10 for adding tracks after 'Am I Really Losing You?'. That's the track that ended the album on its original release in 1993. The 'new' songs are from EPs, feel tacked on and don't really add anything.

I've only recently discovered Liquid Tension Experiment, which is odd considering I first listened to Dream Theater nearly 20 years ago. Anyway, been enjoying both albums immensely, would highly recommend if you're in the market for some instrumental prog metal.

10/10 just for the band name tbh

Sorry I have no idea how to embed a Spotify album, is it even possible from a phone?

Witchcraft! Thanks! I've been enjoying some Dixie Dregs this morning, recommended by Spotify after LTE. 8/10, would listen again.

One of my favourite albums of all time, and in my mind is pretty much perfection. It's a dreamy, mellow rock album, that after a few listens really sinks its claws into you. It is very understated in places but keeps growing and growing on you to the point where even the simplest chord changes hit you.

Red Eyes is legit a perfect song. Good call.

I've been playing through the discography of my favourite band of all time, Kent. Spoilered for ludicrously long and utterly niche post.

Kent - 5

Their debut is clunky as hell an pretty unremarkable. I guess När det blåser på månen is the one track that points to the magnificence to come.

Verkligen - 7

A much improved follow up, this includes the excellent singles Kräm (så nära får ingen gå) and Gravitation. Also some overlong indulgent stuff in the back end, and the much maligned Halka (I actually quite like it to be honest, despite the bizarre accent.

Isola - 9

This is where my love for the band started, albeit with an English language version of this album. It's a triumph from start to finish, and has a magnificent closer in 747. If you're of a certain age you may also know Om du var här, or more likely 'If You Were Here', which was a popular track on MTV2 back in the day.

Hagnesta Hill - 8

It's Isola mark II to be honest, right down to the 7 min 47 second closing track. Still pretty good stuff, although nowhere near as consistent as Isola is. Ett tidsfördriv att dö för (which was omitted from the English language version for some reason) is my favourite.

Vapen & Ammunition - 9

AKA the one where they went massive in Sweden. What might have been if they'd also released this one in English? Sadly is where they conceded defeat on other shores, but this album is an absolute monster. Every single song here is a potential single, with Pärlor, FF and Sverige my favourites. The track Kärleken väntar was covered by Morten Harket of A-Ha and released in English as 'Burn Money Burn'. It's a gooseberry fool cover.

Du & jag döden - 10

The first masterpiece. Possibly a reaction from the massive sales of Vapen, this is a much darker record in tone, but still carries Kent's pop sensibilities. It's just a brilliant album, and Mannen i den vita hatten (16 år senare) is one of my favourite songs of all time.

Tillbaka till Samtiden - 8

Their first dabble with electronica. It's a fascinating listen because of what happens next, but it's not quite a great album. Columbus is a fave, as is the excellent Vy från ett luftslott but the album loses steam towards the end.

Röd - 10

It's a toss up between this and DOJD for my favourite album, but this is incredible. Fully embracing electronica for the first time, this is just fantastic from start to finish. If there's a better opening to an album than Taxmannen and Krossa Allt then I'm yet to hear it, and the closing Det finns inga ord is magical.

En Plats I Solen - 6

A weird album. Basically left over songs from the Röd sessions. It's not fantastic, but Gamla Ullevi is a stone cold banger.

Jag är inte rädd för mörkret - 7

I call this the U2 album. A return to guitar-driven pop, although some synthy bits remain. It's all very good, but some of the magic had gone. Worst closer to a Kent album too.

Tigerdrottningen - 9

No idea where this album came from in the latter days of their career, but it's magnificent. Effectively a 'come down' album, this is chilled out and spacey and just utterly cool. I love Svart snö and the duet Godhet with Beatrice Eli. Also (praise the gods) a fantastic closer again!

Då som nu för alltid - 8

The last one. It's an emotional ride, and a slightly uneven one. There is some filler here, but also some of the best work of their career in Den vänstra stranden and Förlåtelsen. The video for Den sista sången was recorded at their last ever gig in Stockholm, which I felt honoured to be able to attend. It still gets me a bit teary to this day.

Here's the short version if you can't be arsed.

The Best Of Kent - 10

Mark Lanegan - Bubblegum - 10/10

Brilliant bluesy rock going on on this album, some fairly chilled out slow songs interspersed with heaven stoner rock type songs. A couple of which featuring guest vocals from PJ Harvey and Josh Homme on lead guitar.

No Spotify link as I don't use it.

The Mad Capsule Markets - Osc Dis

Loud, heavy and weird Japanese metal. Haven't a clue what any of the songs are about but I don't need to , I just like it.

I'm really enjoying this. Really didn't think much to the recent Distillers songs but this is great.

The opening track is an absolute banger.

Considering she was married to Josh Homme, I can't believe she never featured on a QOTSA album.

Jerry Cantrell - Degredation Trip - 10/10

Only fairly recently had a full listen to this (having heard a few songs from the album a few years ago) and its an utter masterpiece, easily up there with his Alice in Chains output.

Favorite song is definitely Spiderbite but Locked On, Anger Rising and Bargain Basement Howard Hughes are all absolute beasts too.

You don't need to pay to listen, the paid option just removes ads.

When I try to play any of the playlists on here it just gives me about 30s of a song?

Spotify is amazing value at £9.99 in my opinion.

But then I use it probably 4-5 hours a day on average.

No on desktop.

I don't think it's necessarily that bad a value proposition but it obviously depends on how much you use it and how much you would otherwise have been spending on music.

As I largely just listen to Sade and my existing collection of Seal on vinyl I'm not used to forking out much cash on music! ;)

Create a free account and log in, you can then listen to the full songs.

You get the occasional ad, although I haven't yet encountered one (I suspect uBlock might have something to do with it).
