The only bad bit about Dredd were those awful 3D bits that they shoehorned in.

I'm allowed to not like things other people like

People who love fury road get genuinely upset when people say they didn't like it. I went in really hyped as I'd heard so much good stuff and apart from how great it looks, I was bored to tears with it.

That's a hallmark of 99% of films that have a 3d version though. OH LOOK THING FLYING AT THE SCREEN

Yes you are. SOME people find it difficult accepting that, however.

Going back to Dredd I also preferred The Raid, but still loved Dredd.

Both are better than Fury Road. Did I give Fury Road a score? Oh yes, I did. It was 6/10.

The Raid was godlike, but Dredd was very much its own thing despite sharing a similar setup. In fact, it had a lot in common with Fury Road in that it was a stripped back, no fat, none-stop action film with a single goal: to be thrilling. Both work incredibly well (although if I had to chose I'd go for FR over Dredd due to the former's overall design and its hint towards interesting politics) and are rightly being remembered as modern classics.

Why are people arguing over Fury Road? It is just a long action sequence with a paper thin story. I was pretty disappointed by it after reading all the hype on here.

For me it was the opposite, i knew virtually nothing about the movie (i hadn't seen any of the original films) and so there was no hype, yet despite that, i absolutely loved it.

Also, i don't see how anyone can not like this guy rocking out with his flaming guitar...

I have no idea! It's such a shame GR's thread pages are incinerated immediately after being replaced by a new one! Someone should do something about that.

The politics in Dredd are also incredibly interesting. He's a hero and the good guy, but also a massive fascist operating in a police state.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Bit of an up and down movie. Some genuinely enjoyable moments, some rather bizarre, some utterly terrible. TLJ is bit all over the shop, and yes it went on far too long. You could rip 20 minutes out of the movie quite easily. That said even if it was a tad shorter I don't think I'd find it any more engaging. As a side note I still think Kylo is a great character, but Rey remains quite flat and uninteresting.

So, not my favourite Star Wars, but not the worst either. AOTC still wears that crown.

6/10

Go ahead and put down Dredd, dislike Fury Road if you must, but you leave my boy Edgar Wright who has never made a film less than brilliant out of this

I actually find Dredd's politics way more interesting than Mad Max's. The fascist element of the character's design creates a lot of potential for great stories.

Scott Pilgrim is quite vile in places. Baby Driver is great though.

I'm not one to get up in arms about films and their depictions of things as I get that it's all escapism but I find the Scott Pilgrim character abhorrent. It's a whiny film about a whiny man who never *really* takes any responsibility for his stupid, hurtful actions. He cheats on two people and at the end of it not only does he get the girl he was after, but the other one almost seems to act like it's her fault this happened in the first place. There are no consequences to what he does. In fact, the thing he is supposed to learn is self respect, which is great except he hasn't shown any respect to any other character throughout the film. Perhaps that's the point, I dunno, but it isn't portrayed well in the film at all. Even after he learns his life lesson, he is still a bit of a tool.

Neither of the two leads hold a convincing romance and the whole film just has a nasty vibe to it on repeat viewings IMO. The only thing it really has going for it is Knives, who is the only character to actually have a story arc and character growth. Also the Chris Evans cameo.

I haven't watched Scott Pilgrim, but I thought it looked gooseberry fool when seeing clips/trailers, so there's that.
