Disappointing, had heard this was good. Crap actresses, crap effects, crap monsters, crap story.

You what? You're in the vast, small minority if you think that!

I just didn't rate it. The dialogue was clunky and they all had dodgy accents. The creatures were silly. The sets sometimes looked real, sometimes looked like bad CGI or matte paintings. The main character suddenly becoming a Rambo-like warrior princess was hilarious and it just felt totally at odds with the rest of the film. I get they were trying to make an arc of this women who'd suffered tragedy then becoming strong, but it didn't work for me.

The whole dynamic of the "lead" girl being kind of a baddy felt forced and wasn't really expanded on. Why was she a baddy again? Because she had an affair a year ago and then accidentally mortally wounded one of the group? From that point on she suddenly becomes sinister and has an ulterior motive....which we don't ever find out about.

It's telling that the film was far more claustrophobic and tense before there was any mention of cave monsters, once they arrived on the scene it just descended (see what I did there) into standard pick-them-off slasher fare.

I think the first half of The Descent is better too, but I do still really rate it as a film. Cracking ending too.

While I have become used to watching films in more than one sitting, I'm not sure I could do that with a horror. Surely the suspense/build up is shattered, no?

I agree with you mate, but I played football last night and I've also got a heavy cold, so I was shattered. I'll have a quick re-cap later and carry on with the film until the end this time!

Ah, fair enough. I'm currently watching films in half-hour batches on the Metro* in the morning and it's working pretty well, though I avoid anything too heavy-going.

Agreed, but the second half was still better than the majority of slasher flicks out there. It's also genuinely scary, which is rare for that genre.

I loved it, basically.

Trick 'r Treat - 7/10

Pretty good. Enjoyed the different stories, the way they intertwined, and there were some good characters in there. More of a dark fairytale kinda thing than a horror film, but still enjoyable.

Saw that last weekend. It was suprisingly decent.

Dr Strange.

Really enjoyed this more than I did for Age of Ultron and CA: Civil War. What's the next Marvel Universe film? GOTG2?

Yup, and it's followed by Spider-Man in the Summer and Thor later in the year.

Goosebumps - 7/10

It was a decent family film and I enjoyed it.

Tokyo Marble Chocolate 6/10 Cute film though a little hollow, even with the two perspectives.

I, Daniel Blake 8/10 Powerful film which kept me miserable for a couple of days. The general twists and turns were a bit too obvious though.

The Lady Vanishes - 7/10
Wasn't bad this. Some of the characters were a bit annoying, and I didn't care much for the 'comedy' elements, but the plot was intriguing enough to keep me interested.

Goosebumps - reminded me of Ghostbusters, but without the Ghostbusters - 6

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl - 7.

Jason Bourne - 8/10

Well, it was fun and non stop action from the beginning to the end. The main plot was a bit weak I must admitted, but who cares? It's Jason Bourne! 8-)

Sicario - 9/10

Fantastic film. Benicio Del Toro was superb, I'd say he was actually the main character as opposed to the also excellent Emily Blunt. Very realistic and brutal bit of film making, and the brooding soundtrack kept the tension going.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Not really into these Marvel movies on the whole, but this one is fantastic. The script is snappy, the action sequences were fun and they sufficiently build up the bad guy. The characters were also very unique.

Big thumbs up.
