7 is the one that reviewed highest too

They're not my cup of tea at all, what I can't get my head around though is how every one of them except the third from 1 to 7, made more money then the previous one. And it's now a billion dollar franchise.

My Mrs thinks they're great (especially the first one) but I can't stand them. After watching one I feel like I've watched the film equivalent of two chavs parked window to window in McDonalds car park, swapping tips on how best to finger their girlfriends.

Sat down and watched this with the kids on Monday, had no idea what to expect from it as it seemed to just pop up on Netflix out of nowhere but it's actually a really enjoyable movie! Looking into it more it shouldn't be too surprised at the quality as the people involved in making it have connections to fantastic stuff like The Lego Movie and Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse.

So yeah if you're looking for a good family movie to watch then this is well worth a look! :toot:

We've got this planned for our family movie night this weekend.
The trailer looked fantastic! And as you say, there's some serious pedigree on the production cast too.

It's a really fun movie and it looks absolutely fantastic at times - again something which shouldn't be a surprise with the Spiderverse connection!

It hits most of the usual family movie beats so it's not exactly doing anything revolutionary but it's really well put together with lots of heart and humour and it also takes some quite nice jabs at the domination of the likes of Google/Apple in society as well which is fun! :toot:

I've seen the first two FF movies and I get the impression that people like them for a similar reason I enjoy the Saw movies. Just replace the cars with murder and they're not too dissimilar. Right?

Loved it  the Groundhog Day thing seems to be a magic formula when you consider the original, this and Edge of Tomorrow, but I get the feeling if anyone tries it again within the next 5-10 years it'll suddenly feel awfully stale.

Just watched this myself. Not much of a fan of Samberg, but I loved it too. Good twist on the formula, having more than one person involved.

1917

After all the hype around this I found it very...boring. I get it's a war movie and sometimes just being "in the moment" with the characters is enough, but this didn't do it for me.

6/10

Promising Young Woman

Another movie with a lot of hype around it, and after 1917 I was worried it too would fall short but thankfully it didn't. Great performances all around, especially of course from the lead role 'Carey Mulligan'.
The trailer made this seems almost like a Harley Quinn-esq revenge take on things and I'm really glad it wasn't that at all. That ending too.

8/10

Room

Following on from PYW the goodness continues with 'Room', which I'm late to seeing but the wait was certainly worth it. Brie Larson & Jacob Tremblay deserve never ending praise for their acting in this, not once did I ever feel pulled out of the movie from ropey acting, this was nigh on perfect. Absolutely harrowing story, especially when you consider that it's something that happens more often than not. Can't recommend the movie enough though.

Possessor.

It’s a certainly very strange film. I don’t know if I really loved it or hate it. It’s certainly original, and a very bloody horror thriller.

Cabin in the Woods - worth it only for Hemsworth’s performance. Can’t stop laughing at it even now.

Cabin in the Woods is amazing.

It really is. Went in knowing nothing about it except "it's better if you don't know anything about it" and by god it was.

Excellent film.

I mean it was fairly dull right up until that happened, and then the last half an hour or so made up for it completely. Utter nonsense but I'm still chuckling away at the thought of Hemsworth crashing into that wall, or that strawberry floating unicorn.

Fast and Furious 5 is a genuinely great action movie. Real cut above the rest.

I'm looking for a high class recent feel good movie for tomorrow evening as it's been a rough week so if anyone has a recommendation I'd appreciate it thx xx

Palm Springs or The Mitchells vs. the Machines are two recent films I've very much enjoyed (the former is a bit like Groundhog Day, the latter has a similar tone to Lego Movie but with a lot more heart)

And on that note,

The Mitchells vs. the Machines 9/10 - I really, really enjoyed this. I only considered it because it got 5/5 on empire, but since it's produced by Lord and Miller I should have been more willing to give it a try as I love a lot of their work. The core family story spoke a lot to me, and it was hilarious and a lot of fun throughout.
