Last film you watched and your rating

Off to see a Terminator and T2 double bill at the cinema.
Yay!

I was desperate to go to that. Couldn’t justify the cost.

Good films, but they're no TLJ.

Speaking of which, some more thoughts on this: (SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU'RE LIKE ME AND HAVE AVOIDED THIS UNTIL NOW!)

I love how this is actually telling a different story for once (and also kind of appreciate that aspect of the Prequels) - it's not "Oh the baddies have a big weapon, we need to rally the troops and take on an against the odds battle to take it down!" which lets face it was pretty tired when they did it again in Return of the Jedi let alone doing it AGAIN in Force Awakens.

I really liked the stuff with Rey and Luke, peeling back the layers of why Luke exiled himself whilst at the same time actually doing some work to establish some back story and valuable context in which to evaluate Kylo/Ben's story - something that really hampered TFA in my view. Also the only good interpretation of Yoda we have seen in nearly 40 years shows up which was nice

In fact - lets get this admission out of the way now, Kylo Ren has gone from being the worst part of Force Awakens IMO to absolutely being the MVP of this movie. His torn nature is actually developed and grounded more here, making it actually more believable and incredibly compelling to watch play out. The conjoined nature and duality of purpose and motivation for both Kylo and Rey is explored really well and actually adds some of the best depth the series has seen to any characters since Empire.

I loved that this showed more shades of grey to both charcaters on screen specifically but the universe as a whole as well. The Star Wars of Lucas (and basically copied by Abrams) has been either mechanical evil, shanty town space wild west and squalor, or innocent ideological idiocy. This feels like the first time the series touches on the fact that not every individual, group and organisation is so easily pigeonholed (yes, yes there were aspects of this in Han Solo's story in the original trilogy, but it was never especially well realised or convincing)

There were undoubtedly some issues with it - super Leia was a bit ridiculous, Snoke not seeing the obvious demise coming his way etc. but those did not really get in the way of my enjoyment in any tangible way.

Oh and it's also bloody beautifully shot at times, some stunning cinematography at times - which is impressive for a series that has never really excelled in this area.

I'd say this was easily several parsecs ahead of TFA.

Pretty much my thoughts on it too. Someone on here had the temerity to claim it looked boring and that's when I got all angry and earned myself a Defence Force reputation. It's by far the best looking and most stylistically impressive of all the Star Wars films. And the most interesting from a plot perspective too, but that goes without saying.

That's great and I'm glad you guys like it but don't compare The Last Jedi to Terminator again or I'll have Denny kill you, Jen.

Obviously the bit about Terminator was a joke, but I did genuinely love TLJ.

I enjoyed the mum jokes during the opening action scene, Mary poppins making me laugh during what was supposed to be a sad scene and the hour long phantom menace deleted casino scene bring put to use. Also BB8 was a slot machine PSML

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

I've genuinely no idea what score I'd give this.

Visually it's stunning. The recreation of 60s Hollywood is flat out amazing, and some of the shots are breathtaking. You are never shaken from the illusion of the period.

As a film however it's, yes, over-indulgent to the point of parody. The Inglorious Basterds bar scene is nothing compared to the Manson Family Ranch scene here. It's 20 minutes of long, slow build up that goes absolutely nowhere and has extremely little bearing on the rest of the plot. The scenes with Bruce Lee are the same; any other director would have cut them or had them cut by associates. There's very little actual story here too, the majority of the film being one long day in Hollywood, seen through the eyes of three people.

It's beautiful and immersive but not something I think I'll ever watch again.

Blade runner 2049. New on netflix. I did try to wacth it ages ago but it seemed slow. A 2hr30min film that should be 1hr30min. OK though, some good themes. 6/10.

WRONG. BR2049 is legit one of the best sequels ever made.

Alita: Battle Angel 3D

I enjoyed the movies far more than I thought I would. The cast was really good especially Christopher Waltz. The story was a bit rough around the edges but the visuals were pretty good especially watching it on my Index.

8/10 would watch again.

I hope there is a follow on.

I didn't really enjoy it. It looks great, but I was pretty bored (don't really like the original either). Ryan gosling also continues to be awful and ruin every single film he's in too.

I'm still flabbergasted they cast him in La La Land. He's got such a weak voice, despite being the vocalist in his own awful band.

I thought he was perfectly cast, if you need someone to play a robot then he would be my first choice every time.

I'm not arguing against the general sentiment but Ryan Gosling is brilliant in The Nice Guys. Everything else, not so much though.

Ryan Gosling is excellent. 2049 is a less influential but better structured film than Blade Runner.
